I wish it was as good as my land line was but it isn't. There seems to be some slight delay and occasionally the sound will cut out if something else is going on with the network like a download or something which isn't often. It isn't perfect but I am going to give it some more time. If after a month it doesn't work as advertised I'll send it back and go back to the land line. |

Have you tried running a speed test using something such as DSLreports.com? I did have a problem with my QOS router (actually, I think it's my cable modem) after I had been using it for a while. The upload speed suddenly went from 1536 mbps (what it's supposed to be) to around 200 mbps or less. It was causing the biggest problem with my Voip, which wasn't even usable.
I replaced the router and did all kinds of troubleshooting. The tech people at Kentrox couldn't even figure it out. I finally put a switch between the cable modem and the router and the problem was fixed...nobody knows why.
I thought maybe a speed check on your connection might indicate if you are having some other kind of issues.
Also, do you have NAT enabled on the MTA? (It sounds like you do).
It might also be network latency that is causing this, I think DSLreports.com has a tool for checking network latency as well. |

To be honest the service appears to have improved. I think it may have been an ISP issue before. I just tested it with my wife on the phone and I was shocked just how good it was. I remoted into my server and did a 50 meg download from microsoft while talking on the phone to her. The download tapped out at 350 Kb/Sec and yet talking on the phone was still pretty good. There were a few anomolies but no delays or anything like that. Once I stopped the download it sounded as good as a land line and the last few conversations I've had have been every bit as good as a land line.
I went ahead and remoted my server from work and went to dslreports.com and did the download/upload test. My speeds were:
2810 kbps download 353 kbps upload
I think that is pretty darn good...isn't it? |

The speed test looks like a typical cable connection that's working as it should.
It does sound like you were having an ISP issue before.
Good Luck! |

Hello __digitalaero__ hope all is great!
I'm looking for help before purchasing the Kentrox Q2300 QoS router, I would really appreciate your help, thanks ahead of time.
-- My question about the 'Kentrox Q2300 QoS Router' is about the problems that you talked about running into when you got it ==>

1.___Could you please explain what problems you ran into when setting up your 3 Voip ATAs? ==>..that's what I will be setting up, 3 Voip ATAs and also connecting an additional 5-port switch to expand from the 4-LAN ports of the Q2300 router to 9-LAN ports so that I's be able to connect my other computers.
2.___What do you mean that the Kentrox tech ppl didn't really help?
3.___...Could you please also explain about you ''..finally put a switch between the cable modem and the router and the problem was fixed...nobody knows why?'' ==> I don't understand that at all, seems to me that it defeats the whole purpose of the QoS in the Q2300 router if the switch you connected before it is bypassing the router - please explain.
4.___And I really do not get whats-up with this 'nobody knows why': ''..the problem was fixed...nobody knows why?'' [/b]
Thanks |

I had a problem with the speed when the Q2300 was connected directly to the Cable Modem. I really don't think the problem is with the Q2300, because they sent a replacement and it did the same thing. It had been working fine with the Q2300 connected directly to the Cable Modem for some time, then all of a sudden the download speed went to around 10K/s.
I am almost certain the problem is with the Cable Modem. When I connected a switch to the cable modem, and then the Q2300 to the switch (nothing else, just Modem > Switch > Q2300 > My Network), it worked fine. Connecting the switch between the Modem and Q2300 has resolved whatever the problem was between the Modem and Q2300.
The tech people at Kentrox tried to duplicate the problem, but were not successful.
I hope this helps. Good luck! |
