just last week i got a vt2442 motorola router from Vonage. set it up according to the user manual and surprise surprise, it give me one way audio on 99.99999% of outgoing calls ( until i call my personal cell phone or my parents Vonage line)

i spent nearly three hours on the phone with tech suport, first wit hthe regular techs that know very little, then with an engineering tech who then forwarded my problem on to the engineers as he noticed that some value on the server doesnt change when the audio from the person i am calling is supposed to pick up ( i think he called it RTP or something)

been waiting three days to hear back from them, havent heard a wrod yet.

hase anyone else been having this problem with this router? i have also enabled DMZ on it to forward all packets to my pc, but since im fed up and i removed my router from my network and am directly connected to my modem, i notice that a) i am getting no 404 errors from web pages i was getting them from before i got rid of this router and b) overall net speed has jumped about 50% for my downloads etc. i am a networking challenged individual and any help with these problems would be a godsend. is this a problem noticed on this router, or from vonage's servers wherever they may be? my parents have Vonage on an older model linksys rt31p2 and they have had no complaints other than a funny sounding ring that has been happening for about a year.



ISP: 3web ( ottawa - canada)
speed: 6mbits down 1 mbit up
router: Motorola vt2442
modem : motorola sb5101
network setup: cable line > Modem > router > pc and phone
issue: one way audio on just about every single call and also, no ringing when calling most switchboards for cell phones and office buildings/ dormitories

sorry to hear about your troubles. I have a vt2442 which works perfectly. I haven't experienced any of the problems you mention.

Could be a faulty unit. You might want to go to futureshop and/or bestbuy and pick yourself up a different Vonage phone adapter and try it out. If it works, then you can confidently ask Vonage to send you a new unit since the vt2442 is obviously faulty.

When you get that new unit from Vonage, take back the adapter you bought at FS and/or BestBuy since they have pretty handy return policies Smile Or keep the new adapter, and ask Vonage customer care to credit your account the cost and keep it as a backup. They were pretty understanding when I did exactly that, since they can't expect you to be without phone service while they troubleshoot and/or replace your vt2442.

i just went and hard reset the router using the button at the back ( a networking friend told me t otry it and i had already done it before) i hve also taken away my static ip address i had set up for my pc, i uninstalled my nvidia networking utility that i had for my motherboard, shut everything on my network down, and plugged them back in in stages, turining my pc back on last, and its a mairacle that now, my bloody router and phone is working, but i am not usre for how much longer as this was working in the beginning of my service then about an hour later i would have to do it all over again. only thing i have enabled in my router is the dmz setting for packet forwarding to my pc

Wh0dunnit, have you tried to run the forum Voip test (menu, top left, Vonage Information, Voip speed test)? What were the detailed results from the advanced tab?

Do your parents live close by? Since you know that Vonage works well with their ISP, it would be helpful to try the VT2442 on their system. Failing that, a friend with a different service might help.

Meanwhile, that comment from the Vonage tech about a server issue certainly suggests a problem outside your control. I hate to say it, but I think the main line of attack needs to be with Vonage tech support. You might want to drop an Email to them using the forum contact page. We're told that gets special attention.

it appears that whatever the problem was, either something i did, or something they did with the server fixed it Smile i haven't had any problems calling anyone for the past few hours, and normally it would die after 45 minutes or so. thanks for your help and advice however.
