PostPosted: Mon Oct 04, 2004 2:19 pm    Post subject: Cordless Phone Recomendations Reply with quote Back to top

I currently have a couple of the VTech 2420 handsets that i was quite happy with when I bought them 2 years ago. Both handsets have started to wear out already though and my wife would like me to find us some new phones. I am looking for cordless phones with a single base station that supports multiple handsets. The handsets also need to support a headset attachment since my wife has become addicted to this feature Very Happy

I think I would also like to make the jumb to a 5.8 ghz system instead of 2.4 ghz, but it isn't critical.

What is critical, if it is at all posiable, is to get a phone that will work with Vonages caller ID and most importantly voice mail. Our VM indicator on the current vTech system is intermitent with Vonage and I hear about it a lot. I would be very interested in hearing recomendations on phones, especially if you ahve ahd good results with VM indicators. Thanx in advance.

Our Motorola Cordless models work well with all Vonage features, including the voice mail flashing indicator and stutter tone. We've got a 3-handset 2.4 gz set, but the 5.8 were tempting when I got these a year ago. Only complaint I have is they don't hold a battery charge nearly as well as my v-techs did.

I tried several panasonics, but ended up liking the Motorolas overall for price and features. Most Panasonics work well with Vonage too.

Good luck

Well, I just signed up for Vonage and so far so good. I just went to Target and bought the Panasonic KX-TG5212M for $75.83. It's a 5.8Ghz with two handsets included. Here's a link to Panny's site with more details on the phone.

The Panasonic KX-TG5212M was one of the phones I was looking at. If you don't mind my asking, how is the battery life so far and how long have you had the phones?

I puchased the Panasonic 5240 5.8 Ghz to use with Vonage about 4 weeks ago, works great. Battery life I've charged it 5 times in 4 weeks and used about 500 minutes of Vonage time in that period plus the time used playing with the setup. The manual quotes it at 5 hours of talk time or 11 days of standby. I think its actually better then that. it uses Nickle metal hydrate so no memory

I've learned some hard lessons about cordless phones over the years. I have the best success with good quality 900mhz phones, particularly in range. Generally 900Mhz has better range than the newer standards.

Well, I charged it up the sound quality has been good but I cannot tell you how long that batter will last since I have not really used it that much as of yet. I just bought yesterday so I would not be a good canidate for a review of this phone.

I did find out that the phone I was talking about that I purchased at Target may have been a price mistake and will be corrected soon. If your local store does not have it in stock now, the replenished stock will have the regular $199 price on them.

I have tried several cordless phones with Vonage. Here are my experiences with them:
VTech 40-2421...Good 4-line 2.4 GHz phone, but the range is limited, and it is subject to interference from other gadgets that use the 2.4 GHz range. It does not have an indicator light for messages waiting, but it does show it on the display. One problem I've been having the last few days is that since Vonage is having problems with the date and time not being sent, it doesn't display anything for the caller-ID (it's worked perfectly until now). It does NOT have a range extender (that would be a nice feature on this phone). It is expandable to 12 handsets, and I find it works well for my business (I have two business lines and my home line connected to the base, all of them are on Vonage). I have heard that mixing Vonage and land lines on some multi line phones will cause the caller-ID to not function.

VTech 2467 Gigaphone...Good single line 2.4 GHz phone. I really like the message waiting indicator light. I did have some problems with the caller-ID in the past, but resetting the MTA and the base unit resolved the problem. The biggest drawback is that the integrated answering machine turns on by default after a power failure, preventing the Vonage voicemail from working. This unit is expandable to 8 handsets, and has a range-extender feature. The range is decent on this one, but it is also susceptible to interference from other 2.4 GHz gadgets. This one DOES display the caller-ID when the date and time are not sent.

Sony SPP-ER1...Simple 900MHz cordless phone without caller ID (or any other features), it's ten years old. But, it has the best range and sound quality of all the high tech phones that I have. My wife would not let me unplug it, so I have it connected to my home line in addition to the two VTech phones.

Sony SPP-900...Very bad 900MHz phone. I thought it would be a replacement for my old SPP-ER1, but the sound quality and range are the worst I have ever seen.

Hello. I was wondering if you have had problems with having a landline and a Voip line connected to the same Vtech cordless phone? Vonage seems to think that the voltage from the landline interferes with operation of the CID. Have you experienced this? Thanks.
