hai Red,
First activate the device by registering the mac id of the v-phone either thro vonage web site RETAIL ACTIVATION or by calling CUST CARE...............
once the device gets activated plug-in the v-phone to the usb port and check whether u r able to get the v icon in your MY COMPUTER screen..
if yes u would be getting a DIAL PAD in ur pc screen...check whether u get a msg" READY TO CALL" ......if u get that msg start dialling the 11 digit phone number..........it will work |

make sure when you put the vphone in your computer that you allow for all traffic to be passed when your firewall settings pop up |

I jsut bought the device and have managed to activate it after much aggravation caused by poor instructions and lack of insight on needed time for Vonage system to process it. But although unit seems to launch on 2 home pc's I simply cannot get it to launch and run on the laptop I travel with. Have made sure all drives are enabled, even turned Firewall off. Double-clicking the .exe file has very brief and non-effective result. Trying to get help from Microsoft and Vonage, but... Anybody have an idea? (Believe a real geek needed to see way forward on this.) thanks |

couple of questions for you
what is the model of the laptop and the model of the NIC in the laptop?
What actually happens when you try to use it on your laptop?
What is the message on the dialpad?
Are you trying to connect it using a wireless connection or a wired connection via ethernet?
is the laptop connecting to the same network as the 2 other computers you were able to connect are? |

emac,
I am using a Gateway 6020Z with XP Pro. The USB ports are 2.0. The NIC is installed, with both wireless g and 10/100 Ethernet (I don't know offhand how to find the brand of the NIC.)
I have tried to launch the device both while operating wirelessly and wired, both fail. My other two pcs are on the same router, with one wired and the other operating wirelessly.
The software is installed in the laptop and the requisite 2 drives will display in W Explorer. During the early moments after inserting the drive, and usually hearing 3 quick double-tones, a white box will display noting the Vonage device is detected and this is followed by another box saying it is being initialized.
I am then prompted by my SSC Firewall (an AOL thing) whether to allow communication with the internet, and I approve it.
Then nothing further.
Have disabled the "firewall" and gone back to Drive to open the Vonage folder and double-clicked the "Start Vonage Talk.exe" file. The cursor scrolls momentarily, then stops.
Nothing more happens.
All drives have been enabled to allow "autoplay".
Any ideas?
thanks |
