Ok, I am going to try it behind the PIX first. Our Comcast modem is 7mbps down\1mbps up. This is for only one server and three users. Bandwidth should not be an issue. |

hmmm... So you guys say no ports need to be open if I put the box behind my firewall.. yet Vonage says:
--- We understand from your email that you would like to install the Vonage device behind a router.
We request you to open the following ports in your router.
1. DNS: Port 53 UDP (Domain Name Server - for resolving server IP addresses)
2. TFTP: Ports 21, 69, 2400 UDP (for profile upgrades/downgrades)
3. HTTP: Port 80 UDP (for firmware upgrades/downgrades)
4. NTP: Port 123 UDP (Network Time Protocol - so the device can sync to the proper time for Caller ID)
5. SIP: Port 5061 UDP (used for older Vonage devices provisioned before 2005. Also, BSP Proxy Groups 1-8, and a.voncp.com communicate on port 5061.)
6. RTP (Voice) Traffic: Ports 10000-20000 UDP.

that info i didnt know. well if Vonage recommends on doing that, it'll be good i guess. i based my suggestion on the fact that a lot of people i know who have routers dont normally deal port opening stuffs. |

Ok, keep the PIX as your front end with everything else behind it. You'll defeat the purpose of having the PIX if anything is in front of it. You don't need any inbound rules, regardless of what Vonage says. Everything from your ATA is outbound. |

Yep.. I hooked the ATA directly up to port 2 on my PIX and all is well. No need to put it between the pix and the cable modem. Thx guys! |
