I have a Comcast SMC8014 Business Gateway modem with a 6mb/784 connection. There are 4 ports and the Vongage router RPT300 is plugged into one port, and my Linksys Wireless-b router is plugged into another port.

On my laptop running both a Vonage softphone and Skype over the poor wireless B network I can make decent Voip calls, today its a little bad. But using my standard phone with the Vonage adapter the incoming calls break for about 1 second every 4 seconds.

Vonage had me change the IP on the Vonage adapter to 192.168.16.1 and it isn't reconized as connected in Comcast modem/router. It works, but not very well.

This was run over the wireless network.

I have comcast and Vonage at another location using the SB5100 modem and vonage's wireless linkys router which is great, but I think Comcast is screwing me in the office.

PLEASE HELP!

1. Your location CHICAGO
2. Your ISP name and type (cable, DSL, wireless etc) COMCAST CABLE
3. Upload and download speeds 768K/6MB
4. Modem make and model --SMC8014
5. Type of Vonage adapter used ie RT31P2 or PAP2
6. Setup of Network ie Modem --> BOTH Vonage AND WIRELESS ROUTER (MODEM IS ALSO A ROUTER)
7. Issue you are experiencing ie dropped calls, choppy audio etc
8. Run this Voip Test: After the test has fully completed, in the Advanced Tab, click on "View Text" in the lower right hand corner. Copy-N-Paste that data into your post.

This will help you get the answers/resolution faster if you can post that first...

Have the RPT300 set in DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) in Comcast SMC8014 Business Gateway modem. This might help.

What to post when having technical trouble with Vonage...

I recommend you do a test over a wired network. Use this VoIP test instead.

I would suggest testing with your Skype clint turned off. Skype tends to chew up all available bandwidth to relay other Skype calls even if you are not on a Skype call. It is very likely that the Skype client is set up to try to keep out of the way of other applications running on the same PC - which would explain why the soft phone on the same PC works well while the adapter does not. Skype would not "see" the adapter and would therefore use any bandwidth that it could, without consideration for "anyone else".

Vonage - as well as most other Voip providers (besides Skype) only use your bandwidth when you are on a call - beyond a few registration packets here and there. They are much better behaved.
