Greetings
I can't seem to get my new D-Link VWR wireless router to use the same IP addressing as my existing router.
The network is using 192.168.1.xxx/255.255.255.0 and the Linksys Router (BEFSR41) is set to assign the IP addresses.
All I want is the D-Link router to be the 'slave", to adopt the 192.168.1.xxx IP addressing, and not assign any addresses via DHCP. The manual says use DHCP relay.
When I change all the settings in the WAN, LAN and DHCP to match the existing network addresses I lose all links to the internet and network. I can't even configure the D-link without a reset to factory defaults and the IP address of 192.168.15.1.
Any help would be appreciated... I thought it was a simple task! |

I know this wont seem like help!
I had the Motorola VT and I now have the D-Link I tried to change the IP to 192.168.1.... to fit in with a uplinked Linksys router. I couldn't get it to work so I ended up changing the IP of my uplinked router.
I think it said in the Motorola manual, that it is advised that you don't change the IP of the router. I would assume it would be the same for the D-link?
I'm lucky as I only use my Linksys router as a glorified wireless AP and 4 port switch. I used to have a BEFSR41(V1.1) as my main router but it was getting old so I took the opportunity to join Vonage a get a new router into the bargain.
Does your BEFSR41 have QoS as you may find you will have issues with the quality of the calls?(If I'm talking a load of bobbins please feel free to correct me anyone).
Good luck |

Does your DLink box have wire ports also? Try connecting from one of these to the Vonage router instead of the one marked 'Internet' (or equivalent. I suspect whether the subnet details are the same or not, the router always treats something connected to the 'Internet' Ethernet port as on a different subnet to the local network. |

open the following ports in your router.
1. DNS: Port 53 UDP (Domain Name Server - for resolving server IP addresses)
2. TFTP: Ports 21, 69, 2400 UDP (for profile upgrades/downgrades)
3. HTTP: Port 80 UDP (for firmware upgrades/downgrades)
4. NTP: Port 123 UDP (Network Time Protocol - so the device can sync to the proper time for Caller ID)
5. SIP: Port 5061 UDP (used for older Vonage devices provisioned before 2005. Also, BSP Proxy Groups 1-8, and a.voncp.com communicate on port 5061.)
6. RTP (Voice) Traffic: Ports 10000-20000 UDP.
hope these helps |

Hi Guys
Thanks for all your suggestions.
Sorry for the slow response... it's work committments.
I contacted Vonage Tech Support to see if they could solve my problem, and no matter what we tried, as soon as we changed the Gateway IP address (LAN setting), all contact was lost with the router. The final suggestion was to use the D-Link VWR as the main router and the Linksys as the slave. I could alter the LAN address of the Linksys.
So the situation is the same as Darlo's. The IP seems to be hardwired into the router. Maybe the telephony part needs 192.168.15.1 as the LAN IP address? Pity they didn't state this in the manual, it would have saved me a lot of time!
Everything works as expected now, after I changed all the IP address to match the VWR., |
