After ordering and installing my Vonage service I now realize that people receiving my calls do not get my name used on my account on their display. They get "unavailable name"or something similar.
Does anyone know of a way to get my number listed with my name so it displays on the phones of people I call?
This is pretty frustrating since I am now getting security screened by some of my clients I call. I know there must be a way.
It would have been nice if Vonage would disclose this. They mention "Called-ID with Name" as a service, but fail to mention the details.
Thanks! |

as far as i know they can't do that yet... something about the number directory is the one from the number you transferred in from and the fact that with IP to PSTN calls you have to go through a gateway and the gateway doesn't let any info pass through it...
I think CallerID works vonage to vonage though, but not when it goes out to a PSTN phone |

That is really unfortunate. I wish I knew how long until it could be a optional feature.
Oh well, I guess back to Qwest I go.

Glanced over their website, seems like they have something they're developing but they dont have anything that's in production yet. Did you port a number in to vonage? I've heard that when you port in from a landline carrier like verizon, the directory listing stays, so if you have John Doe on your directory listing, then it stays on your outbound CID |

This was a new number and according to archived posts it seems like this feature has been "in progress" for quite some time. I have even called their tech support and was escalated to the higher level support and was given no answers on a time frame. I did log a request for this service. But I really don't think I can wait it out. Bummer, seemed like a cool idea.
I wish there was a service that would list a account name with a phone number separate from Vonage. |

well i port my # in from verizon a while ago, and i kept the directory listing with my letter of agreement thingy, so i'm pretty sure my name comes up with the caller id, it's whatever was on file w/ verizon when i port it. so if you port a number rather than getting a new number i think you might be ok, might want to call tech and confirm. i would make sure you talk to the tier 2 or 3 techs though, some of those guys are a few french fries short of a happy meal if you know what i mean |

Do a Google search on VOIP and you will find plenty of providers that provide outgoing caller ID. |

I ported my number from my South Wester Bell land line and I lost my outgoing Caller ID name. I've also lost my incoming Caller ID name on most cell phones. |
