Just a heads up that I purchased a d-link vta Vonage phone adapter from FutureShop for $9.99. Guy at the counter told me that since it was advertised at $9.99, I get it for that price. Not sure if it's a mistake or not, but you might want to check out your local FS or BestBuy, since they typically print out the same pricing, assuming you want to sign up for Vonage or are looking for a backup device like me
Seems to work very well with my wrt54gs (thibor 15c firmware with qos). I might keep it as my main device if it continues to work this well. There is much less hiss (background static) on this device when compared to the vt2442. |

it works perfectly well. I've been switching between it and my vt2442 to compare. The only major difference between the two is volume.. the vt2442 produces the incoming voice much louder, needing me to turn down the volume on my phone for each call, while the dlink behaves much like a regular pots line with respect to volume, requiring me to turn up the volume periodically.
The loud volume of the vt2442 is what produces the extra background hiss/noise, which goes away when you turn the volume down.
Other then that, they both perform pretty much the same, which doesn't surprise me since they use the same TI chipset. |

well, I'm back to my initial setup, after days of playing around with both adapters, qos and 3rd party firmware on my linksys wrt54gs router. I was getting a lot of echo when using the d-link behind my router.
I placed the vt2442 up front, and everything else behind it, which was my original setup a couple of weeks ago. This seems to be the best setup, and the echo cancellation in the vt2442 seems to be much better.
However, the d-link has a much more natural sound to it. Less hiss, static and high pitched tones in the background noise. I might test it out again in the future to see if the echo issues were just Vonage related.. dunno.
For now, I'm just happy to be echo free again |
