Hi there! I need some help!
I just receive a brand new UTStarcom F1000 phone running firmware 5.50vo and have not been able to connect to any hotpsots.
From the getgo it has not been able to get the Vonage network information. In fact if I go to MISC, the Vendor Name, Model Name and Enterprise Code are empty. When it arrived, the date wasn't correct and it had 0.0.0.0 as the default IP address...strange.
The unit connects to my AP. I thought it was a DHCP or encryption issue, but now I do not think so, since I am able to connect to the phone using the Web Configuration.
The phone goes through the following messages on every AP I have tried (Open, WEP, WPA):
- Power ON
- Connecting to "SSID name" AP (5 sec)
- Registering via "SSID name" (90 sec)
- No service try other AP
Any ideas of what's happening? I thought it was WEP related, since I read it only accept 128bit and I was using 40bit on my airport, but after seeing the same happen on an open AP I realized this wasn't the problem.
Do these phones have to come pre-configured to be able to access the Vonage account?
Thanks!

When you turn the phone on,m it should not have an IP address as it did not get one from DHCP.
WHen it goes to Registering - THEN check to see if it has an address. If so, then it should be trying to get a configuration from Vonage. If the phone "never" worked, it is possible that the phone is having a problem pulling its configuration from Vonage.
The result there is that the phone has no SIP settings, so it can't register.
Do you have an IP address when the phone tries to "Register"? |

Thanks for the quick reply.
If I leave it with DHCP Enabled I get the following:
IP Address:
10.0.1.3
Subnet Mask:
255.255.255.0
Gateway IP Address:
10.0.1.1
SSID Connected To:
broken airport express
This is all from my airport express.
I tried putting a static IP address following the screenshot on the manual just to try it, but it still did not pull any information from Vonage.
Local Network Configuration
Terminal IP Address: 172.20.227.16
Terminal Subnet Mask: 255.255.248.0
Terminal Gateway IP Address: 172.20.224.254
Primary DNS Server IP Address: 216.115.31.140
Secondary DNS Server IP Address: 216.115.24.230
It almost looks like it needs some pre-configuration to actually find Vonage. It's strange that there's no Vendor Name, Model Name or Enterprise Code.
Do you have to open ports on an airport by any chance?
I've put a support call into Vonage.
Thanks again! |

It seems that the phone is connection to the AP, but not getting to Vonage. The fact taht the Enterprise Code does not come up as "Vonage" also seems strange.
I would recommend that you start with a reset of the phone:
Go to Menu -> Misc -> Factory Reset
When you press OK on Factory Reset, the phone will prompt you to "Enter Code". If the phone has never connected to a Vonage config server, then the password would be NULL and you can just press OK. If the phone had successfully visited a Vonage config server, then the password is likely utvonpw (all lower case).
After the reset, check the Vendor Information again and see what it shows. Also, after reset, and reboot, the phone should try to pull a configuration file from Vonage - and would likely start working at that point, assuming it finds the file. |

Thanks!
Doing a factory reset with NULL as password fixed the problem. Now the Vendor Name = UTStarcom, Enterprise Code = Vonage.
Thank you so much!
