maybe try swapping the position in the network then, in other words having like your linksys connected to your modem then have the motorola hardwired into the linksys... though i saw some posts here of people that are having some issues w/ choppy audio cause of that |

yeah- as i mentioned in one of my earlier posts this was my original setup- but the quality of the audio suffers. I'm just wondering whether anyone knows why disabling NAT on the VT2442 kills my connection, and whether there is a way to setup the VT2442 to simply act as an access point (i.e. no filtered traffic whatsoever) |

Just for completeness, this isn't 100% accurate. First, FTP is TCP only. Second, there are two types of FTP and only one uses tcp 20.
Active FTP does use both tcp 21 and 20, but the server only listens on port 21. 21 is used on the server side for control portion (login/off, etc.) of an FTP. The server then initiates its own connection back to the client for the data connection (gets, puts, ls, dir, etc) which is now listening on a port >1024, using the source port of 20.
With passive FTPs, tcp 20 is not used at all, and all connections are initiated by the client. The server listens on 21 for the control session, then a port >1024 for the data session. |

yes I've tried that- but I use a lot of applications which overwhelm my upload connection- so didn't make a difference.
so anyone know why disabling NAT cripples the connection? or how to configure VT2442 to work solely as an access point? |

take the bandwidth test, and post your results.
also.. any chance of ditching the motorola and getting a pap2? They're only running around $50... |
