Post subject: Extremely choppy quality with linksys pap2 + belkin router
I'm using a pap2-linksys
voip
box with a band new belkin pre-n MIMO router. I am getting extremely choppy qulity... all calls cut in/out.. virtually every other word. I thought maybe the issue was interfernce from the new routher, and I've tried multiple wireless phones, including a uniden 5.8hgz powermax and a new Uniden DECT 6. 0(supposedly immune to interference from wireless traffic).
Now, the weird part is, when I plug my old, crappy belkin 802.11g router, it phone quality is great... even if I have the brand new router on (i.e., powered on but not plugged into the network).
Am I missing anything? Any ideas?

This is a good start, but please post all the technical details listed in the sticky message at the top of the forum. Tell us exactly how you've configured the network that works well and the one that doesn't. Do the
VoIP
test for both configurations.

Network setup is a bit complicated.
I'm running a netserver lh600r with widows server 2003 enterprise as a server (also doing DHCP duty); belkin pre-n wireless router (handling NAT). Info to follow, but I'm pretty sure the network isn't the cause... been using cablevision w/conage for years withouta hitch with the same setup, only had problems when I put the router in.
Anyway, here's the info.
1. New York, New york
2. Cablevision w/ boost
3. 30 mps download/3mps upload (maybe 5, but no morethan that)
4. modem: motorola surfboard 5120
5. Type of
Vonage
adapter: PAP2
6. modem->router (brand new belkin mimo pre-n)->gigabit switch->pap2
7. see above
8. speed test on MIMO router (using wireless laptop, not wired workstation):
Download 5,975,712 bps
Upload 2,844,912 bps
QOS 78%
RTT 18 ms
MaxPause 118 ms
Will post speed test on old router in a bit.. on baby duty right now and can't go downstairs to swap routers.

REsults with Old router:
Download 4,360,296 bps
Upload 3,877,760 bps
QOS 55%
RTT 41 ms
MaxPause 98 ms
I'm going to plug the lappy into a a network jack and see if the results change at all.

MaxPause 28 ms
Results with the new router plugged in:

Download 17,113,096 bps
Upload 3,886,096 bps
QOS 66%
RTT 17 ms
MaxPause 23 ms

Why the gigabit switch? Are you using it in both setups?

I need a switch because I have more than the four devices provided for in the blkin router.
I went with gigabit because I push a ton of files between my desktop/laptop and the server.
Yes, switch was used in both setups.
The computer that I ran the test on was plugged into the port right next to the pap2.

Hmm. Just to set my mind at ease, please try it with the switch removed, using the new router.

very difficult, seeing as the switch is upstairs and router is in the basement . . . .
But, done.... no difference .
I plugged the pap2 directly into my new router. No difference.
