Hello,
I would like to use the call forwarding or simulring to my cell phone but have a bit of a problem.
I would like that the call rings on both my Vonage phone and cell phone at the same time, and if I don't answer on either my Vonage voicemail picks up after 20 seconds. This works fine when my cell phone is on, but if my cell phone is off or I am out of a service area, my cell phone voicemail picks up (I need my Vonage voicemail to pick up instead).
Is there any way to work around this problem?
Thanks, Jeff Wickenheiser |

there's no way around this.. Vonage doesn't know that your Cell's voicemail (or out of service msg) picked up, it just knows that the Cell completed the call, so it stops ringing the Vonage line..
everyone complains about this, unfortunatly, this is normal, so there is no 'fix' for it.. |

I use SimulRing with my cell phone exactly as you describe. I found a fix that makes it work great!
I simply called my cell phone provider and had them remove the voicemail feature. |

Unfortunately I also need voicemail on my cell. What if I were to have my cell set up so that it forwarded to my Vonage when turned off?
Or would that create an infinite forwarding loop Vonage -> Cell -> Vonage -> Cell? |

Good question... I don't know. With SimulRing, I only have to use my Vonage number for both home/office and cell. I can't think of why I would need voicemail on my cell, especially since Vonage handles everything and is more convenient. (i.e., picking up voicemail locally, by calling in, or via the web) |

Lots of people have my cell number, and I need voicemail because of this among other reasons. Maybe I'll test out the forwarding from the cell back to Vonage when I have a few minutes tomorrow. |

Yes, I certainly understand. I had the same situation, but it was worth it to me to use the one number. It took quite a while to get everyone switched, and even now I get an occasional inquiry about my "new" number.
Actually, there was even an advantage to switching. By sending e-mail and snail-mail notices (and even calling) to everyone, I refreshed a lot of business contacts. Same for my personal contacts.
Good luck. |

This problem could be fixed I assume if one were able to set the number of rings the cell phone's voice mail picks up is greater than the number of rings Vonage does.
If Vonage's voice mail picks up after 6 rings, and your cell phone picks up after 7 rings, then Vonage would take the message I assume and your cell would record messages placed directly to it. |
