My Vonage Cisco ATA 186 adapter may be kicking out internet service about ten times daily for the last three weeks. Prior to this no problem.
To correct the issue I power off the SB 4100 surfboard cable modem, router and Vonage Cisco adapter to re-establish internet service.
I removed the Vonage Cisco adapter from my router and went without phone service for about 12 hours, during this time I experienced no problem connecting to the internet with my computer.
I am suspicious of the Vonage Adapter doing this.
Or could it be Comcast has detected VOIP and is bombing my cable modem by disconnecting me..
Comcast tech support is no help. They find no issues
Vonage tells me to run tests. They find no issues.
Up stream test. 201 kbps
down sream test. 4.88 mbps
Router. Linksys BEFSR 41
Comcast just acquired Adelphia and will soon offer there own VOIP. |

Hook in your ATA directly to the modem and see what happens. This happened to me and I was thinking it was Comcast as well. It turned out that my Linksys router was dying. Got a new router and all has been well since. |

Do you have your router setup for static or dynamic? The problem is possibly a combination of your firewall blocking the ATA . Turn off the firewall and make sure your router has a dynamic connection. This should resolve your ATA being denied access causing it to go down |

I also would argue to suspect the router before the ISP. Comcast has gone on the record as stating that it does not block Vonage. I had a problem with an old Sonicwall firwall/router that would freeze up any time I ftp'ed a large file to a certain site. When I replaced the router, all was well. |

I'm no fan of Comcast, but I'm with the others on this one -- Comcast & Vonage have been working fine for me over the past 3 or so weeks. I'd first suspect the router... It seems the lifespan of a Linksys BEFSR router is about 2-3 years before they start acting flaky. |

Is the Cisco ATA set up with MAC Address Cloning, assuming the device supports it? Try turning that off, especially if the MAC address matches your PC. |

I too am an Adelphia and now Comcast subscriber (before I moved a year ago I had Comcast and Vonage w/o any issues for over 2 years). I DO KNOW that for a period of about 3 weeks between the middle to end of November until about a week and a half ago, Comcast was converting over Adelphia users to their network and doing some upgrades. It was so bad I was recycling power to my CM and SonicWALL Pro appliance 2 to 3 times a day as either the upstream or downstream traffic would stop everytime they did some work.
Are you still having issues? Everything should be settled by now. Keep us posted. Happy holidays everyone! |
