"But since Vonage is not a carrier and relies on 3rd party company(s) for service the limitation is due to the Vontage carriers. "
What does "3rd party company(S) for service" mean?

Hi Hal,
The 3rd parties in this case are the communications companies that handle the Line port. Some plces it is XO communications.. for us it's either Telco or Starco... I coulnd't make out clearly what the Vonage people said.
In any event, I would call Vonage and push them to escalate your LNP. |

Well, I heard on 10/8 that my number would be transferred on 10/12. They said they would send me an e-mail after the transfer happened. I haven't gotten an e-mail yet but, starting about 1PM today my calls for my verizon number starting coming in on my Vonage line.
Disconnected the the telco wires outside the hosue and I can use all the phones in my house.
Everything seems to be working fine.

Hal,
Good deal! Still no word on my transfer yet. I think I'll call Vonage again today and pester them a bit.
Where in Durham are you? I'm in North Durham. |

Huh! After sending the forms on September 2, and calling Sprint and Vonage multiple times after the allotted 21 days (The help pages did not say 21 "business" days.), the transfer finally began on October 11. Initially, my phone # stopped working for everyone. Then, my Sprint line went dead around 10pm (Too late to disconnect wires! My box is outside!). Finally on the 12th, I called Vonage because the phone number still wasn't working. (Nice though. I called them from the living room through Vonage! ) After a dozen or so minutes everything was working… Finally!
On Oct 13, I received two email notices. One informing me that the forms had been approved and the transfer would commence on Oct 12th. The other said the transfer was successful on Oct 12th. Nice of them. |

Has anyone heard when Vonage will be adding the 252 area code for Eastern NC. I currently have Vonage with a Maryland # for my wife's family to call us locally and for long distance, but I am still stuck paying Sprint to keep my local number too. Seems like a Sprint hold up since no other Voip carriers can add 252 numbers either. Any idea why just this area code is a problem? |

Well, it has been a long journey, but it has finally ended. I started my trip back on July 9th when I sent my letter of authorization in; by the 12th they stated that they had received it. It is now October 21, 2004 and my number has not been transferred from MCI.
I have since moved from my original location back on August 31st and I had to leave my original phone service connected for the transfer. Well, the time has come, someone bought my house and I now have to disconnect the phone service before the new home owners arrive on October the 26th.
For the past 2 months I have been calling customer support on a weekly basis, but I keep getting the same answer, “At this time the number transfer department have sent a status request to the carrier to verify a confirmation date for transfer. Once the number transfer department receives a confirmed date for transfer you will be notified immediately via email.”
I have not once received any status from either the carrier or Vonage regarding the transfer. It is kind of ridiculous that it has taken this long, 3 ˝ months. Now since the new home owners are moving in, I have no choice but to cancel my original phone service. I am kind of upset on how this whole journey was handled. I’m not saying that I will get rid of the Vonage service since it does work, and it does work well, but I am just upset.
I wish everyone else will have it easier journey then I had. |

Watts hillandale. Has your transfer gone through? If not, I really suggest the FCC complaint process.

I submitted paperwork to transfer number from Verizon to Vonage on Dec 3 a Friday, so I thought okay I will count day one as Dec 6, didn't get transferred to Vonage until Jan 23. Vonage gave us an extra free month.
Verizon is horrible! |
