Hi,

I have a Motorola VT1005V phone adapter.
I am at kuwait.
I do not have a seperate DSL/Modem internet connection. I have a wireless datacard connected to my laptop (PCMCIA) which connects internet (at 220kbps) provided by its telcom provider anywhere at kuwait with 3G technology.

To say, i have gone through the installation guide and the user guide for this model, but no luck with with pc having direct connection as in my case.

Once i am connected to the internet, i plug the ethernet cable into the WAN port on the phone adapter. The blink sequence is 2 Blinks, Pause, Repeat: which indicates the Phone adapter is obtaining ip address from the DSL/Cable Modem as per guides.

But nothing happens further after waiting for long. The process keeps on going (looking for an IP address).

How can i make this work ? Does it work with PC having direct connection ? What am i doing wrong or whats required ?

Please guide.

Thanks in advance.

abcd.

Here is a post from way back from Mystic on using Internet Connection Sharing

Mystic wrote:
There's a slicker way. Instead of bridging the port (although that's a neat trick), simply use ICS (Internet Connection Sharing).

Here are the instructions for WinXP. They're similar for Windows 2000. If you're running Win98 SE or (shudder) WinME, you need to setup "Internet Connection Sharing" (ICS)

All you need to do is "share" your Internet connection...in your case, your wireless card. You'll find it under the advanced settings tab on the properties settings for your card. Then, as indicated, you connect the WAN interface on your phone adapter to your laptop's Ethernet port. The phone adapter will acquire its IP address from your computer and....voila...you're online to make Voip calls.

Alternatively, you can do the same thing by going through the "Set up a home or small office network" dialogue in "My Network Places".

I've done this before and it works fine.

Maybe this can help.

I did a search on this forum and apparently according to this post, Vonage is being blocked in Kuwait.

http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic15480.html

this might explain why it's not provisioning. But it seems like ICS is working for you. But I can't do anything about your ISP.

Hi,

Thanks for the link. Its about Dubai and i know Dubai's provider (etisalat) have blocked access to Voip. Now as for Kuwait there is no such bann as yet.
Also it did worked for my friend as per his note. He also was able to make calls nomally. He is having the internet shared at his home with a switch connected on his small home network. He connected the phone adapter to one of the switch port and did worked for him. But it not working now Rolling Eyes
I think there is some other issue. If this was the issue at kuwait then it would not perfom the initial stages of obtaining configurations from their server (3Blinks, Pause, Repeat). It is getting stuck at the fourth stage (4Blinks, Pause, Repeat - i.e. Registering with their servers) I don't know what process it does to register with their servers or that any change in the phone adapter can make it work ?

Thanks,

Kalpesh.
