I'm having no dial tone issue with linksys pap2 often . please let me know wat are the easiest steps to get the dial tone. Any suggestion

honestly the PAP2 is a stand alone device.. if you are connecting it through your local router.. then do this.. unplug your router.. your modem and your PAP2.


make sure all connections are made and are secure...

then starting from the wall out plug your modem in.. wait for it to complete its boot sequence...


then plug your router in (if Applicable) let it go through its boot sequence...


then plug your PAP2 back in... let it boot up and then check for dial tone

have you contacted tech support?

also.. have you checked to see if any connections to it are being blocked.. pick up the phone dialtone or not and hit **** and check the IP address.

did it work before???
if yes,

make sure that the cable on the back of the devices are firmly connected.

the cable of the pap2 on the router
the cable on the back of the pap2 itself
the phone cable if that one is plugged in on the line 1 bec
line 2 is disabled (not working if the phone number is assigned on line 1- or do the same , as vice versa)

do unplug the power cable and wait for about 2 mins and power it back again..if this dont help, just let me know..

also, note on your reply how does the power light, as well with the other lights blink.. Smile

I see the word often, so I guess it has worked before.

If the phone light just dies, look at the ISP Modem (or router) itself and see if it sees that the pap2 is connected to an ethernet port, if the light isn't on, try switching the ethernet ports and see if that's the problem.

If not, make sure you can log into the pap2's IVR system by picking up the phone and dialing 4 "*"s. This will let you know if the router is just going bad if you are not able to access that menu.

If all else fails, contact customer care. Not all of them are bad, just have to be lucky.
