Laurel, MD Comcast Cable 1mbit/8mbit up/down RCA DCM425 Cable modem D-Link VTA-VR Modem->D-Link DI-724U office router->Vonage Adapter
I upgraded from a Linksys PAP2 to the D-Link VTA-VR. Since this upgrade I have noticed three annoying problems happening.
1) The rings (when someone calls me) are very short in duration. This may be causing problem 2, and it may not. I use my own answering machine, so my answering machine has a hard time determining the ring count since the rings are very short.
2) Caller-ID is not working all the time. Sometimes it works just fine and other times it will not work at all.
3) Occasionally, I will hear a click and the call will be disconnected. Happens about once every few days.
Again, these problems just started when I switched devices and I am hoping there is a way to change this. Also, my phone is plugged directly into the Vonage adapter, so it isn't a problem with phone lines in the house. Thanks in advance for any help and see below for Voip test results.

I'm afraid you'll need customer service on this. My own experience with this sort of thing is with the Linksys RTP300. On that one there were adjustments that can be made to ring voltage, cadence (waveform), and so forth, but you can't make them. Only Vonage can. I imagine the D-link is the same. |

I have experienced the short ring duration on both a VT2442 and now the VTA-VR. I called Vonage and tried to have them fix it to no avail. Then suddenly one day the ring duration was what it should be with the VT2442. I have since upgraded to the VTA-VR and it too was ringing like is should, but about a week ago or so the rings went back to being short and have been so since. I used to use my own answering machine and the short rings did cause a problem as I had it set to pick up on 4 rings but to the caller it would pickup on 2. I had to adjust it to pickup on 6 rings so the caller would hear 4. Then when it decided to start ringing like normal, I had to set the machine back to 4 rings. I started using the VM because I do not want to make a habit of changing the answering machine settings. |

i have those same 3 problems with my D-Link VTA-VR as well. i guessing its a Vonage problem but maybe even a firmware issue. the short rings have been happening for a while now but lately it seems like it rings normally now. as for the caller id, i still am having problems with either being unknown caller from known callers or but raraly no caller id at all. dont know whats causing this but not too worried about it yet. if it does continue, ill give Vonage a call but ill see. the VTA-VR is a new box from Vonage so things like this are normal with new devices. |
