PostPosted: Tue Nov 07, 2006 1:18 pm    Post subject: Problem using Vonage in Delhi (ISP is MTNL) Reply with quote Back to top

Hi everyone,

- I've a 256kbps ADSL though MTNL in Delhi

- My configuration is DSL modem->Vonage Linksys router RT31P2->PC

- The settings for the DSL modem indicate PPPoE LLC

- My TCP/IP configuration on the computer was of the type (while connected directly to the DSL modem)
IP: 192.168.1.4
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DNS (preferred): 203.94.x.x
DNS (secondary): 203.94.x.x

- I change the TCP/IP properties to automatically get IP

- On my RT31P2
-- changed the settings in RT31P2 to PPPoE with the username/passwd as specified in the DSL modem
-- set local IP address to be 192.168.15.1.
-- enabled the local DHCP server
-- entered the primary and secondary DNS IPs into DNS 1 and DN 2 respectively

Cant get it to work. What else information do I have to put in there. I tried some different settings but it just wont connect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

thanks and regds!

Are you getting phone service, internet service, or neither?

You seem to have done all the right things. One possibility is that the DSL modem is expecting (and insisting on) operating with just your computer. Some of them are like that- they remember the MAC. Try powering down the modem for a couple of hours and then firing up with the RT31P2 connect to the modem. Sometimes a long down time will make the modem forget the MAC and accept the next device it sees.

I cant get either internet or phone. I tried switching the router and the modem off for the night but that didn;t work either.

Would it help if I uploaded 3 snapshots of my router/modem/PC configuration? Am I allowed to paste a link from a filesharing site (sendspace/depositfiles) here on this forum?

And oh yes, thanks for replying Steve...

Well, it can't hurt. I think posting the link is allowed.

Riddler, I just don't know what the problem is. As I said up front, you seem to have done the right things. What I see in your pictures also looks good. However, I did notice that your computer was originally using a static address of 192.168.1.4, as you said. You changed that to DHCP, which was the right thing to do. You also set up the router for PPPoE, again correct. However, is there a place to enter that static address in the WAN configuration for the router? Did you do that?

Steve,

I do see that option but only if I choose the static IP option on my Linksys router.
http://www.sendspace.com/file/b30s8g

Here the snapshot of that configuration that I've tried in the past. In this case, I can connect to the internet but the phone line indicator keeps on blinking (solid lights) every 5 sec or so...

Appreciate your taking the time out to help me out on this one...

thanks!

Now we're getting somewhere. If you have a configuration that gets you internet service through the RT31P2, that's the configuration you want. Go back to it.

A blinking phone light usually indicates one of two things- phone mail or a phone off the hook. If you have a the adapter plugged into house telephone wiring, unplug it and just go with a single phone plugged directly into the adapter until everything else is working. With that configuration and with the internet working, do you get dial tone?

If not, run the forum Voip test (menu, top left, Vonage Information, Voip speed test). Post the detailed results from the advanced tab here.

Hello All,

I have 2 phone adapters and 3 Vonage connections. One adapter has gone faulty, so I want to shift one line from one adapter to another.

I am not able to get to the menu from Vonage site to edit my devices and choose the one of my choice.

Also, if someone could tell me, where do I get a Linksys Phone adapter (PAP2) in Delhi? (I am sure there would be someone selling it here).

Thanks in advance.
