Hi, I am trying to use my Vonage service while on a brief visit out of the US. The local High Speed Cable internet provider there requires logging in using a username/ password provided.
I was wondering how I can setup my VT-1000 phone adaptor to automatically log me in. I tried enabling PPPoE and setting up the username/ pasword there, but this does not work - I guess cable internet is not PPPoE.
It does work after I login manually( with the phone adaptor setup not enabled for PPPoE, I have 'Obtain IP Address AUtomatically' set ) , but this means I always need to have a computer connected to my VT-1000 phone adaptor, which I don't want.
Thanks, SR |

Ummmm, sounds to me like you've got one lamo, cheeseball cable Internet provider to make you have to do that. |

currently I switch on PC, log in and then shut down PC without logging out. So I am logged in for some time (around 6-7 hrs) and then I guess the ISP kicks me out due to no activity. |

How do you enter this username and password? From a web browser? Using a special application they installed on your computer?
Who is your ISP?
The router can present standardized username/password information using PPPoE, but that's usually a DSL protocol. Most of the time, your cable modem should be set up with the username and password you need.
My WRT54GL with aftermarket firmware can handle several login protocols that the Vonage routers cannot, like PP2P, L2TP, and "Telestra Cable" which apparently has its own protocol. You may want/need to put another more serious router in front of the Vonage router to handle this login. |

I tried PPPoE but router is not able to log-in. May be PPPoE is not supported by my ISP. How can I find out which protocol they support and then which Modem can log in. |
