Vonage has just become available here in my city and I would like to sign up but I have a couple of questions I would like to get answered first. I have a home network with 3 desktops and a laptop on it. My router is a Linksys wireless WRT54GS and it works beautifully so I don't want to replace it if it can be avoided. It appears that Vonage is giving away the DLink VTA Voip adapter and no longer supplies the Linksys PAP2.
My question is pretty simple, has anyone on the forum had any experience using the VTA and the WRT54GS together on Vonage?
I also read in a couple of posts here that Vonage will rebate the cost of an adapter like the PAP2 if it was purchased before signup, this admittedly sounds too good to be true but maybe it really is?
I will happily accept the VTA if it is compatible with my present wireless router but if it is not then it would just be a waste of time and hardware.
Thanks for any assistance, Cec Britton |

I have no personal experience, but I've seen nothing complaining about any incompatibility between the D-link and the Linksys, and I have seen some nice comments about the D-link VTA (but not the VWR). In general, I would expect the combination to be fine.
If you haven't already signed up, you should run the forum Voip test and also run a comparison test at www.testyourvoip.com. Those tests are designed to give you an idea of the quality of Voip service that you can expect from your internet service. |

Steve,
Thanks for your input. I have Cox cable so I don't expect a problem but you are right, I should check it first just to be sure.

that router will work fine with the Vonage service
just make sure that you have the latest firmware for the router, no matter when you bought it even if it was last week, chances are that you do not have the latest firmware
make sure you know the version number of the wrt54gs you can get that off of the bottom of the router
then go to the linksys website and click on the downloads link on the top of the page
and you will be good to go |

Thanks emac,
I did what you suggest yesterday. I was several versions behind but now I'm up to date.
