Hi all

My friend has gifted me a Vonage device, VT2142. I am using the cable net. After configuring all setup perfectly i can not access to internet. All connections are ok.

I think so i am stuckup on following stage. I have read the quick reference which states that you should register Vonage device(wan mac id) with your cable provider.

I have contacted the my isp provider call center where all technical things process. Isp provider in not ready to register mac id.

is there any other way ?

can any body help me out.

thanks in advance.

Hmm, no, I don't think you need to call you cable provider. How did you connect the VT2142? Did you connect it directly to the cable modem? If so, make sure you start by rebooting your cable modem.

depending on your internet provider you may need a mac clone//

click start>>run>>then type: cmd
then hit the enter key
that will open a black box in the black box type:
ipconfig/all
then hit enter

one of the things that you get from that is a physical address write that down

also look at the ip address that you get, it should say 192.168.15.2 if your computer is connected directly to the Vonage device

then open up a web browser and type in http://192.168.15.1 in to the address bar and then click go

both the username and password are: router

then click log in

then click on setup and then click on WAN connection on the left hand side

make sure the connection typ eis DHCP and then on the lower left hand side you will see a check box that says MAC overide

put a check in that box, and then erase everything in the box below it that should have something like: 00:fd:xx:xx:xx:xx

in that box type in the PHYSICAL ADDRESS that you wrote down from the ipconfig/all

substitute the hyphens(-) with colons (Smile

make sure all letters that you type are lowercase

then click the save button on the lower left hand side.

then it will bring you back to the same page and it will show you the letters that you typed in that box.

unplug the power to your cable modem and the Vonage device wait 2 minutes then pug the power in to your cable modem, then wait two more minutes, then plug the power in to your Vonage device, then just watch the power light it will start to blink once it gets pass 2 blinks and then on pattern that means that it is getting out past your cable modem, so just wait, it should turn solid...

when the power light is solid you should see a phone light come on

I have connected directly. Not through cable modem.

All connections are ok.
Is there any Ip configuration for this device ?

I have powered down & up the Vonage device & my pc as per the quick start guide reference.

what should be the problem ?
still i can not access the internet.

thanks in advance.

I'm not sure what you mean by "connected directly". Can you provide a rough diagram of what is connected to what?

Following are the connections.

internet cable connects switch(isp provider) & Vonage device.
a lan cable connects pc & Vonage device.
power code connects Vonage device & electricity board.

So, like this?

Cable Modem -> VT2142 - > PC

Reboot the cable modem. If that doesn't fix things, set the VT2142 back to factory defaults and see if that helps.
