My problem is that my Linksys RTP300 adapter went kaput (maybe due to voltage fluctuations) and hence I have been thinking of buying a Motorola VT2442 adapter.

In this I have 2 questions:

1) Ebay: I have read through the topic "If you are thinking of buying a Vonage device off ebay then don't" (http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic14928-0-asc-0.html). Is this still relevant? I'm not able to see the particular guide mentioned in ebay, but I found another which says swapping the MAC address is possible:

Also I'd like to know if such a swap is possible if the original owner has cancelled their account and have no pending charges towards the same?

2) If the above option is not feasible at all, then is there any other place (other than Vonage itself) where I can buy the Motorola VT2442? I'm seeing that it costs about $80, but I see no other places offering it. I can see discounts on all other routers offered on sites like Best buy, Circuit city, Target etc. But I cannot find VT2442 at all.

When did you acquire your RTP300.

Vonage used to have only a 90 day warranty.

I convinced Vonage & they now have a one year warranty on all products they sell.

And, in answer to eBay purchased Vonage devices, Vonage will not permit a device to operate for anyone other than the original purchaser, despite what a seller on eBay may tell you.

I bought my RTP300 in April 2006. I called up tech support and after the routine of asking me try every step and it not working, they said they can't help me. They didn't say anything about replacement.

I got the device directly from Vonage and I didn't buy any warranty for it. So does this 1-year-warranty apply to me?

Yes, your Vonage warranty is valid until April, 2007 if you purchased in April, 2006.

They will send you a replacement and delay billing for 14 days for you to return the defective unit.

However, you have to pay return shipping (I recommend w/delivery confirmation).

Thanks a lot! You sir have been a great help Smile. I really didn't know about a replacement at all.

Just one more question. In this case will the replacement be an RTP300 again? Will it me possible for me to ask for a VT2442 as replacement? Or upgrade to it, if it costs more?

they will most likely ship you the same model of the device you have now, unless they have stopped production on the RTP300.

For Retail Customers only, we will provide a limited warranty on the Device as to manufacturing defects only for a period of one (1) year from the date of purchase. A Retail Customer's sole remedy for any breach of this Retail Customer limited warranty is to obtain a repaired or replacement Device, by following the return procedures set forth in Section 2.10. Retail Customer must include with the returned Device a letter stating that the Retail Customer is returning the Device for warranty repair or replacement and stating the nature of the defect. There was no warranty mentioned at all when I received the device. And the money back guarantee period is only 1 month. Are you sure the replacement is applicable to me? This was the reason why I thought it wasn't applicable Sad.

All Tier II Tech Agents were advised that the Warranty period had been extended due to the number of people that were cancelling service who only had their devices less than one year.

If a non-us call center gives you a hard time, ask to be transfered to the US call center, Tier II Technical Support.

The RTP300 is only available if Vonage has recertified units in stock. I have no way of knowing which ones Vonage has in stock.

Support will know.
