I am unable to connect (no internet connection) in Sydney using motorola vt2442 and Optus DSL using a siemens speed stream 2400 modem. I have good internet service when not connected to Vonage. I have verified with ISP that all required ports and enabled. I have changed the WAN configuration as suggested. My power light on the vt2442 blinks green one short and one long. Any suggestions? |

Please post the technical details listed in the sticky message at the top of the forum.
It's disconcerting that your ISP was unable to help with this. The blinking light on your VT2442 indicates that it's trying to get its IP address and, apparently, failing. Generally speaking, this should be a WAN side problem. If you look at the network setup of the computer that's working with the system now, you need to duplicate those settings on the WAN side of the VT2442. You might then have to re-configure the computer to be compatible with the LAN side settings of the VT. Since you've already been able to work on the VT's configuration, I assume you have that in hand.
Some DSL modems will only work with one device having a specific MAC address, and they remember the MAC. Sometimes unplugging the modem for about 1/2 an hour will make if forget and work with whatever device is next plugged into it. You might want to give that a try. |

a number of issues come to mind.
1. If your dsl connection works well with your computer, your modem might be looking for your computer's MAC address. The MAC address is the physical address that the modem's typically look for. A modem will generally have only 1 MAC address that it will work with.
2. How have your configured the WAN side of your vt?
If your problem is #1, you will want to look at your user's guide and find out were it can clone the MAC address of your computer.
My question to you is, did your ISP install a software on your computer to help you automatically login to your DSL connection? If so, then you will want to emulate that in your vt. Then you will want to disable it in your computer since your vt will be doing that for you.
Hope this helps, mundy5 |
