Hello All,

This survey serves 2 purposes, first is to collate information on Voip on Wi-Fi for my end of year project, and the other is to hopefully serve as a indicator of how the technology will fare. As soon as I receive enough questionnaires back, I'll post the results for all to see. The information will only be used for the purposes above listed and all your data will remain confidential, you don't even need to put your name if you don't want to.. Please have a look, it'll only take 3-5 mins of your time.

I thank you in advance for your help.

I use it all the time, but, you did not state what type of information you are seeking.

Regards,
Roger

Hello Roger,

The information I seek is generic, as it is to be collected from as many folks as possible. So I just needed Voip and non-VoIP users to fill in the questionnaire, to be able to come up with an answer as to if Voip over Wi-Fi will have a future or if it is one of the passing technologies.

Thank you.

Regards
Shammie

Well, Shammie,

Question #8 has two choices, both labelled "yes"
I do not know if you received my input. I was able to make entries with great effort. The process was not explained on the page, as far as I could tell. The best I could do was to make my entries and then close the page.

Perhaps it would be better to set up a different input method. I know that the average user will be confused by your survey method.
Moreover, many users use browsers that will not process your web page. (I switched from Netscape to IE in order to make it function.)

Hello Pepperoni,

I am very sorry for the trouble it caused you! but the file is a .doc and it needs to be downloaded to your hard drive. When you click on the link please click on "save" rather than "open". Once downloaded, modify it using MS word, save it, and then send it via email... That was supposed to be the method, and I should have been clearer! Unfortunately I will not receive your input, and again sorry for all the trouble it caused you. Thank you for the #8 mistake, that has now been fixed.

Regards
Shammie

Of course it has a future. It is in daily use here and is not likely to disappear.

I use softphone over wifi at home and when I travel The difference between using softphone wirelessly and a Voip enabled handset is negligible. Both are routed over the internet, at least for a portion of the connection. The limiting factors are wifi access, which varies greatly depending on location, and connection quality which determines voice quality. (and also is variable) High speed internet is widespread, as are wireless router connections.

In the case of Voip handsets, availability of the hardware and its quality and price may be the key determinates for their success. In the case of Voip over wifi using the PC (softphone), that technology is widely available and widely used *today*. Many businesses now use the internet for business use for high volume public contact. (e.g. "customer service" calls routed overseas, etc)

In the "Third World", wireless Voip is likely to be a big business, simply because stringing a few fiber-optic lines is much more efficient and cost effective than stringing copper lines to each phone.

Good luck on your survey
