Hmmm. I bought a PAP2 from Best Buy. It included a rebate from both Best Buy and Vonage. I have received one check and expect the other soon. In the end I paid nothing for the PAP2. So far my savings have far exceeded $40.00. Beats the heck out of the $300 I paid Verizon to disconnect from a service that didn't even work, which was my cell service after I moved. There is one good point to the $300. Because of Verizon I have Voip and I am a Vonage customer. They were my local provider and that discussion over the $300 made me want to find any way to avoid them. Any alternate POTS provider would have been on Verizon's wiring so that was not a solution. So Timer Warner gets a cut as my ISP, but I already had that service. My savings have been averaging about $100 per month as a conservative estimate. I expect you are still debating what to do. Otherwise, why did you post on a Vonage forum?

Pete, how long have you been a Vonage customer?

In spite of my opening comment concerning Vonage's disconnect fee, I did sign up for service using a Linksys PAP2 device. (Yeah, I forgot about the rebate which would've made my device nearly free so I'm out the 60 bucks I paid for it. Would have been a great deal if I hadn't been asleep at the wheel on the rebate! But I couldn't send it in until 90 days after start of service.)

The Vonage service has been great - I generally use it for "local toll" and long-distance calls, but haven't replaced any services from SBC since starting the service. My intention has been only to gain some experience w/ Voip.

I had a recent conversation with Vonage customer service on another matter. I asked them about the disconnect fee and the response was that the fee would be charge only if Vonage supplies the ATA. No charge if you supply the Linksys or other retail device when or if you disconnect from Vonage - though it becomes a paperweight as you can't use it with any Voip service (it's locked to Vonage).

Pete,
With the Pap2, that is no longer true...it has been unlocked.
