This is infuriating. I guess you get what you pay for. I'm ready to cancel service after the dropouts, the crappy Rt31p2 that resets itself in the middle of calls, and the dropped calls (even though all Voip tests turn out very stable network conditions.

I can't call Florida from Pennsylvania. I just can't. No matter what line I call, be they cell phones or land lines, using the 11-digit number or without the leading 1, Lines are temporarily busy. It's been days now and nothing has changed.

What does this message mean and how can I alleviate it??

Edit: I cant call tennessee either. Nothing long distance. Lovely.

Edit2: in fact, it's now local calls. I cannot call anyone.

This condition is frequent among people that reside in the Lancaster, and other Mid-PA areas.

It is a problem with the gatewary from your Internet Service Provider into the PSTN network.

Can you place Voip to Voip calls?

Nobody else I know has Voip. most likely though, since I can call Vonage's voicemail service.

State College, PA is changing from Adelphia --> Comcast. I'm seriously considering just going to Comcast Digital Voice when it's available in the area shortly.

Please email me and I will give you my Voip number to call.

I'm sure you will get through.

I had dozens of calls from PA that had same problem while working in Tier II Tech Support at Vonage.

I have been having this problem for the last 2 days. My Vonage softphone is able to place calls to the numbers I cannot place with my pap2. i can receive calls on my pap2. I can call certain 800 numbers with my pap2. But thats it.

I tried calling tech support but I spoke with a middle eastern gentlemen who after explaining the problem 4 times asked me if I was tring to place these calls with my Vonage number or my pstn number.

Well thats the question of the year!

I am going to junk my service. I am happy that i can switch my service thanks to the Internet.

Sorry to hear that you are Junking Vonage.

Yes, they did me wrong.

But, they have a great service.

It is a shame that their business partners (those who run the PSTN gateways) do not better support Vonage.

This has been an ongoing problem with the gateway providers, their gateways have limited ports and Vonage has no control over them.

You may have the same problem with any Voip, including Comcast, Optimum Online due to insufficient gateway port availability.

Best of Luck!
Roger

PS
I still would like to talk to you about your problem.
You have my email address.
Email me, and I will provide my Tel # to you.

So I decided to call tech support again. i got right through but I was connected to a technician who spoke better english. I explained to him the problem only once and he explained to me that i needed a long overdue firmware upgrade on my PAP2. I moved the phone from line 1 to line 2, rebooted the PAP2 which forced the firmware update, and everything was working fine.

Ill stay with Vonage for now. i will say that this is the first major issue I had with them in the 20 months that I have been using their service.

After installing SJphone soft phone, and setting up Vonage to work on it.... go to profile > VonageSoftphone > Edit > DTMF Tab and make sure the "Send DTMF as:" is set to "In-band" and not "RF 2833". I hope this helps.
