7. ok guys here's my problem, the Vonage adapter is a vtech ip 8100-1 and has a router in its base unit..i cant seem to make it work, everytime i connect my cable to the WAN slot of the base unit and connect the base unit to my ethernet card i cant access the internet..i tried a lot of work around and tweaks but i still cant make it work..my Vonage adapter just keeps showing a blinking yellow light..it wont connect to Vonage and wont connect to my pc..i can log in the configuration address of the router though, 192.168.15.1, by disconnecting my cable that is connected to the receiver...i tried the mac address and settings clone,i tried the dynamic ip address and tried the PPPOE settings but it still wont work!

Can you take Vonage out of the mix and determine what IP address your PC is using? The wireless antenna used for wireless broadband has a router built into it, and that antenna usually gets a public IP address, and is then assigning private addresses inside the LAN via DHCP.
You then need to determine the PRIVATE IP address of the wireless antenna (since it is a router, it will have two sides, public and private (WAN and LAN)).
Then configure your Vonage router to get a WAN address using DHCP or manually assign an address IN THE RANGE OF THE LAN or PRIVATE side of your wireless antenna. Set the default gateway on the Vonage router to the LAN or PRIVATE IP address of your wireless antenna.
With this configuration, the Vonage router will have a WAN address that talks to the private IP of your wireless antenna, which will then pass through to the public side and out to the real world.
Give this a try and keep an eye here for other ideas! |

Also, if your PC is able to connect when you plug it directly into the cable, then take a close look at its network setup. You basically want to program the WAN side of your adapter to duplicate that setup. Once that's working, you may need to re-program your PC to be compatible with the LAN side settings of the adapter. |

Well that's a bad scene- and having things cloned isn't good even when it works. You can end up losing the internet every time you pick up the phone if you have duplicate MACs on your system.
Can your ISP offer any help? They really should be willing to. Don't emphasize the Vonage aspect- just the problem that you're having getting a router to work. |

what you need to do is the following:
1) Shutdown your pc (without restarting)
2) remove the power from your Vonage phone adapter.
3) remove the power from your wireless receiver
4) Remove all cables from all devices
5) Turn on the power to your Vonage device a) wait about 2 minutes. b) Using a ballpoint pen or paperclip, insert it into the hole in the back of the Vonage base unit for 25 seconds. c) Remove the pen or clip from the reset switch d) Unplug the power to the Vonage device
6) Connect an Ethernet cable from your wireless receiver to the WAN(INTERNET) port of your Vonage Adapter
7) Connect an ethernet cable from the LAN(PC) connector of the Vonage Device to the Ethernet port of your pc.
8\) plug in the power to your Wireless receiver a) wait about 1 minute
9) Plug in the power to your Vonage device a) Wait about 1 minute - you should have dial tone
10) Place a test call.
11) Power up your PC. a) Make sure that your pc is setup to acquire an ip address dynamincally.
If you PC cannot access the internet, click on Start, then Run, type-in: CMD, click OK
when you get the command prompt, type in IPCONFIG and press the enter key.
If you do not see an IP ADDRESS in the range of 192.168.15.xx, you machine is setup for a static IP address. You will need to change it to get a DYNAMIC IP Address.
Also, 150K is extremely low and is slightly above dial-up, and Vonage Voip will not work well at that low speed.
You can try changing your BW SAVER (on your web account to LOW - 30)
Any questions you may email me at: DJWILDBILL@COMCAST.NET and I will try to help you further. |

I've been following the posts here and I think a bit more information might be helpful.
1. What is the model of your receiver? 2. Does your computer work when it is connected directly by cable to the receiver? 3. Did they install a software program on your computer to make it work?
Basically, what does your isp say to get you on the internet through their service?
is it PPOE? Or is it a static IP?
We'd love to help but we need more info.
Obviously cloning was not the problem. |

Did they install a software program on your computer to make it work?no,the Vonage device did not come with any software
i called my internet connections customer support and they said that i should change my router(vonage device base unit) to have dynamic IP address and so i did but there is still no connection.the connection keeps dropping(computer says that the cable is unplugged but after a few seconds it will connect again) |
