I live in an apartment with my family and will be moving to live in my own. Well, other than closing the windows and locking the front/back doors, I care more about the security of an apartment. So since I have Vonage, will the security line of products work with the apartment? http://www.alarmcentersecurity.com/ |

Some alarm units work with Vonage and some don't. Checking with the manufacturer is strongly recommended. Oddly enough, older units may work better than newer ones do- perhaps because they tend to communicate more slowly.
If your alarm unit does work with Vonage, you still have the issue of wiring it in. Generally speaking, simply disconnecting all landlines and plugging the Vonage box into a wall jack will not work with an alarm. This is because the alarms are designed to pre-empt the phone line, and this takes special wiring. |

Well I'm not going to be messing with wiring (only if I afford to own a house but can't afford it...), but thanks anyway.
Update: Oh, know what? I think I typed www.alarm.net... As I check the FAQ, I saw this:
| Quote: | Vonage has now teamed up with Alarm.com.
Alarm.com offers Alarms systems that are compatible with Voip. Alarm.com works wirelessly with central monitoring stations and does not require a land line to be maintained. Since Vonage and Alarm.com does not use a standard phone line for access; this makes Vonage and Alarm.com compatible. |
So I went into Alarm.com and the domain name got me confused on why alarm.net and alarm.com takes me to different websites...
I don't want to confuse you, but somehow I forget about Alarm.com and I saw this in the FAQ before, so I'm trying to get myself straighten out...
(...A minute later...)
I think I may the answer and I saw this wihch will work with apartments without being tied to a landline but can use your cell phone number or Vonage number to dial in case of problems in an apartment,
I will look around in the website. Thanks for your help.
Update: Looks like Alarm.com has a subscription service for protecting a home. Well it's okay, I don't really need that... :p |
