Could this be a situation where someone forwarded call from Vonage to Sprint PCS?

I dialed a pcs phone number, the person who answered, was not the person I was calling, had a totally different phone number. (confirmed). My phone co is not Sprint, so my company would not even take a repair report. I called Sprint/Nextel *three* times, each call taking several minutes for me to calmly and courteously explain the situation, get transferred to 'tech support' and get disconnected.

It's not that I made a mistake in dialing. For ex,the number I dial is 123-444-6666, and the number I reach is 123-777-2222
I don't know the person I'm calling's name- she answered an ad, didn't leave her name, just the #. I hoping eventually she'll find out her phone is out of order, or it could be the wires are crossed. well, it's wireless so I guess it's not the wires that are crossed.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Where does Vonage come into the picture? It sounds as if your attempts to call PCS support where right on. Is the person you're getting another PCS customer, just the wrong one?

Where Vonage comes in, is somewhere on these forums, when I was looking them over before I posted, to see if anything like this had happened to a Vonage customer, I aw a couple of posts related to Vonage calls going to PCS phones.
I just now looked for them, to link to them, but didn't find them, maybe they were another forum.

that's why I decided to post at a Vonage forum, thinking perhaps this had happened before to a Vonage customer.

As to your other question, I don't know what kind of service the (wrong) person who answered had.

OK, I can't be sure, but I think the answer to your question is no. People do often forward their Vonage numbers to all kinds of other phones. In this case you seem to know that the number you called is a PCS number, so it doesn't sound like a Vonage forwarding issue. However, it could easily be a PCS forwarding issue.

I am a Vonage customer and my cell phone is sprint (true sprint-not nextel). I have forwarded to my sprint cell phone and use it as the network availability number and also used simulring. All three worked perfectly.

I believe that this proves that problem mentioned would be a cell phone forwarding or user account problem but definetly not Vonage.
