I am new here but have been reading for a while and have a question. I currently have the VT2442 but am getting a little annoyed with the constant "hissing" sound that is in the background. I have read that this may be intentional as "comfort noise" or somthing to that effect. Has anyone compared it to the D-Link VTA-VR and if so is that noise eliminated or at least reduced on that adaptor? I appreciate the help, thanks. |

turning down the volume on my actual phone seems to help this *a lot*. I have to do this each time I pick up the receiver, which is a little annoying, but I can deal with it. It would be nice if my phone saved the last volume setting like my cordless panasonic phones (which work the best out of all my phones btw), but it is an old Vista 350
I've never used the dlink, but I have used the PAP2, and the PAP2 had much more background noise/hiss then the vt2442.
Maybe someone else can give you feedback on the dlink. |

Thanks for the reply. So the PAP2 actually has more noise than the VT2442? Turning the volume down does help, but then it may make it difficult to hear the caller depending on how quiet they are. I am using a Uniden phone which is dead quiet on its own, but picks up the hiss from the VT2442. Hopefully someone that has used both the Dlink and Motorola can comment on the difference, or the PAP2 and the Dlink for that matter. |

I've been using the VTA-VR for about a month (replaced a faulty RTP300). I find the sound quality the best of all the Vonage devices I've had (Motorola VT1000, Linksys RT31P2, and the RTP300).
I don't hear a hiss on the VTA-VR. The RT31P2 had "whitenoise" in the background, and the RTP300 started to have a faint high pitched squealing sound when the ambient temps in the room were over 70 degress.

That is good to hear. Maybe I will dump the VT2442 for the Dlink then. Thanks. |

Update: I went out and got a VTA-VR to replace the VT2442 and the hiss is completly gone. It is as dead silent as the land line I used to have. Thanks for the replies. |
