It depends on what you need. If you want the nearest equivalent to the RT31P2 in devices currently supplied by Vonage, then I'd go with the VT2442. If you have a router and it meets your needs, then the D-link VTA.

If you need wireless, then the D-link VWR is the choice from Vonage, but it has a bad reputation at this point (firmware issues). For that, I'd get a WRT31GL from Linksys and put a PAP2 or D-link VTA behind it.

If he is going to purchase direct from Vonage then none of these are choices. Vonage is not longer offering any of these device. They only way he could get one of these routers would be if he purchased them from a retail location and they had leftover backstock of these devices.

Amazon has has the WRT54GP2 at very reasonable prices. Look at the "Used" section because I bought a NIB for under $70.

I'd be cautious about buying used adapters. If they've been used on Vonage, Vonage may not be willing to re-activate them.

They had a few NIB=new in the box routers for under $100. I agree on the used adapter/router issue.

I will agree that it can be a troublesome experience trying to use a used-device.

The Tier 3 support team has to remove the device from an older account if it is deactivated and then add it to yours. The process can take anywhere from 1-5 days depending on the amount of business they see. I would recommend purchasing a new device from a Best Buy or a different retail store. It makes your life easier. And as for devices, I wouldn't buy anything Vonge is selling now. All ofit is crap and dies in a year. If it doesn't, it's hard to understand how it is still working. If you could find a Cisco ATA, I would recommend that because that thing never died, but then you would have to deal with it being used. Mmm.
