I am very confused with the Vonage site.
1. Do you have to have a completely seperate number.
2. Does it cost £7.99 on top of the £7.99 that is the primary number.

There seems to be a lack of reports on how well the Wifi phone works. Does that mean that the takeup has been very slow or is it so good no one has any problems with it.

It would be nice if some one who is subscribed to this in the UK to give us all and Idea and clarify the points above.

SRP: £109.99
Instant Rebate*: £20.00
Price after Rebate: £89.99

the 7.99 you're talking abt is the line. and when you sign up, you would be assigned a number together with the wifi phone. if you haveexisting account, i believe you can just get the the phone and register it & you have to get another phone number for it unless you're not going to use the 1st device that your account has been assigned to.
in regards to the product, its a fine technology bt a bit complicated to use - you knowm with all those security filters and stuff. if not sure, go to the search field and just type in wifi or utstarcom.it would give you better feedback. hope this helps.

For the WiFi phone, you have two choices:

You can get the phone directly from Vonage. In that case, they treat it as a "separate" account or as an added number on your existing account. You would pay an extra £7.99 as a separate account. Your alternative is to move you existing account from your TA to the WiFi phone, though not that many people would want to disconnect the TA. This is to prevent "sharing" unlimited accounts between more than one user.

The other choice is to buy an unlocked WiFi phone from VoIP Talk or SIPgate and then sign up for a Vonage Softphone account. I don't know UK prices, but the US price for a soft phone is $10/month for 500 minutes compared to $15 for a separate 500 minute account or $25 for an unlimited account -- this may be the only know case of something costing less in the UK than in the USA. In any case, I expect that the soft phone add-on would still cost less in the UK than a fully separate account and, since the Vonage price is about the same as anyone else's price (not too big a subsidy as they have in the USA), that would likely be a better option for you.

I have a wi-fi phone as my primary phone. If you travel alot then I would recommend you pick-up a travel wi-fi router which I use in hotel rooms etc. It enables me to login into a hotspot with my laptop/or pda then once the session is estabilshed the wi-fi router keeps the session going whilst you can use use the wi-fi phone in your hotel room....saves using the mobile!

Out and about the wi-fi phone is very limited to cloud hotspots and I wish Vonage would add another provider,,,say BT OpenZone or something so as to increase the number of hotspots the phone can be used out and about with.

Whilst the device itself could have done with making a bit more user friendly once you have it setup the call quality is very good but you are limited to how good your wireless setup and QOS is setup.

I have a experienced build quality issues with the phone and have a number of returns...but this would not put me off buying another one.

Hope this helps

Cheers,

Darren
