PostPosted: Sat Oct 14, 2006 1:43 pm    Post subject: Reset 2442 to Factory Settings - Can't get working again Reply with quote Back to top

Network Config: 2442 Adapter -> US Robotics Router -> DSL Modem

I reset the 2442 to the factory default trying to get rid of the voice mail light blinking that continued to blink after I retrieved the voice mail. Upon trying to setup the adapter again via DHCP as it was previously, I am unable to get it going again in the same network configuration as it was working with previously and after spending several hours on the phone with various Vonage tech support people.

Problem: When connected in the 2442 Adapter -> US Robotics Router -> DSL Modem configuration, the 2442 receives an IP address from the DHCP of the Robotics router but can not provision a voice circuit (the power lights blinks red after trying to establish a circuit). In addition, I have tried pinging an address of 209.73.186.238 (Yahoo) from the Web interface to the 2442 under the Tools tab and was not able to get out to the network as I similarly can not from my computer. I assume I can not get out to the network as I am blocked by the 2442 or the Robotics router. I can see the 2442 connected from the Robotics router and its MAC address so know I am connected to the router end as well. There are no ports blocked on the router and the firewall on the router is off.

Here is what I have tried to no avail:
1) Did the power recycling of the whole network including computer with Vonage CS
2) Reset the adapter through the Web interface, and the reset button on the 2442
3) Tried it with with NAT and Firewall checked and unchecked
3) I set the IP address statically with no difference
3) In trying to eliminate the ethernet cable between the 2442 and the router as a problem, I connected it directly to my computer(taking the 2442 out of the middle). The robotics router supplied the IP and gave me internet connectivity with no problems. From this test I assume that it is not the Robotics router that is blocking my access to the internet.

The only configuration that does work is:
Connected the 2442 directly to the DSL modem and went in over PPPoE connection and this works (however since I take the adapter with me to several locations, this is not the preferred location in my network)

Any other thoughts/help would be greatly appreciated!!!

As requested, I set the Wan Config to DHCP, restarted the complete network and same results... 2442 acquired the IP address from Robotics router, tried to provision a Voice circuit and failed again. No connectivity to the Internet.

What is the default sub-net address range for the VT2442 and for the US Robotics router? If they're the same, you may be having some strange issue there. Changing one or the other could fix it.

I am not exactly sure what you mean by the default sub-net address range but here is what I believe to be the relevant information about which you are asking:

The Robotics router IP address is 192.168.2.1 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and an IP range on the DHCP server of 192.168.2.2 to 192.168.2.19

The VT2442 IP address is 192.168.15.1 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and an IP range on the DHCP server of 192.168.15.2 to 192.168.15.254

Do these assignments look OK?

That's OK. It's the xxx.xxx.2.x and the xxx.xxx.15.x that I was concerned about. Since one is using 2 and the other 15, that isn't the problem. With routers that are the same brand it often is, because they use similar defaults.

An update: Vonage replaced the VT2442 after troubleshooting with one of their CS reps yesterday. New adapter arrived today, plugged it in and now back in business!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was an adapter problem after all.

Thanks to those who took the time to help on this forum.
