if you would be ok not being behind NAT firewall, i think turning off NAT on your vt2142 would work just fine. since you said that you can get it working with just cablemodem>>pc, then i presume you would be okay with that. go to WAN configuration and uncheck NAT. then click save. let me know if this works for you.

Model Number VT2142
HW Revision 1
Gateway 11.4.0-r061120-1.2.1 -r1
Boot Loader 1.3.8.1602
i have got mine working for the most part.
i just cant connect from my lan to the wan and back....
i think this is what is messing with other people.
i have a live web cam feed at greatlakesvista.com.
greatlakesvista.com is triggered to point to my isp ip address.
if i connect from a out side like from my 3g phone the stream will work great.
if i try to connect from the inside lan network using greatlakesvista.com it will not work. the same with vnc and my sling box.
if i use a local lan ip i can connect from the inside with no problem.
this is no big deal for me but it can be a pain when testing network configs.
i would still like to find a work around and get loop back working
also if i disable NAT under setup>wan i cant connect to the internet.
