Hello,
I have a Vonage account with a new Linksys RT31P2 router in Africa.

As the original power adaptor is based on 110v power i bought a universal transformed with an input voltage of 240v and output of 110v 1000ma to use with the router.

The router powers on and I can use it to access the internet, however i dont get a dial tone from either of the phone ports.

after trying everything Vonage says that the problem has to do with the fact that i am not using the original linksys power adaptor.

They claim that the internet ports may work, but not the phone ports.

i have a softphone line as well which works perfectly so i know the problem is not that the line is blocked or slow connection etc.

I am having a tough time finding a step down convertor / transformer to be able to use the original power adaptor and may need to order one from the US.

Before I go through all the trouble of ordering and shipping one, i was wondering if anyone has experienced such a problem ?

Do you think this is the likely problem ?

I truly have tried everthing i can think of with configration and setup

um...output voltage of 110vAC? You're going to toast that router (if you've not already). I don't remember what the RT31P2 requires, but it'll either be 12vDC or 5vDC. Any electronics shop in the area should have a suitable adapter. Note the polarity. Hopefuly someone with an RT31P2 can comment upon the proper voltage & polarity.

Hi, Thanks for your reply.

Sorry, I mistyped.

Linksys Power adaptor: 110v input
Output: 12VDC 1000mA

Country where i am: input voltage 240v

So, substitute power adaptor i bought is input 240v and Output: 12VDC 1000mA

It powers on and has been running well for 2 internet ports.
Phone ports just dont work, and Vonage claims its because of not using the original power adaptor.

I dont get it because the substitute power adaptor i have is outputting: 12VDC 1000mA, polarity is correct and the internet ports work.

I just dont get how using the original power adaptor would change that ?
Perhaps the problem is not to do with the power adaptor, but i cany figure out what.

12vDC could indeed be right... just don't remember if the RT31P2 is a 12v device or a 5v... Assuming the voltage & polarity are correct, I don't see why the adapter would make any difference.
