It's the other way around. Comcast bought TWC. My brother got a message about this, in fact, as he is/was a TWC customer, soon to be Comcast customer. |

Too good to be true. My Vonage calls started dropping again last night. PL still the same at 68.87.207.81 I've given up on TW and feel like just waiting until this thing fixes itself. The wife was so pissed that I had to get a "real" phone line with AT&T. 30 bucks a month I was not counting on. I'm keeping Vonage because for 4.99 I can get all my familiy (and my wife's) in Mexico CIty to call us local. I used to pay 100+ dollars a month just in long distance so I guess it's still cheaper this way. My Vonage line is now forwarded to my land line. And I only use Vonage to briefly call Mexico and ask them to call me back. Don't know what else to do. |

Although I did not call TWC, they called me to see if my problem had been resolved. So, here I go again with my explanation and in a nutshell tomorrow (Sunday) they will dispatch an Engineer with a laptop to verify this "packet loss" issue. I'll let you know. |

TWC Technician #5 came to my house today. Although he had no laptop (see previous post), he made himself at home with my PC. He left pingplotter running, then opened four CMD screens and typed ping XXXX -t with an additional parameter/modifier that I did not get to see. XXXX was things like comcast.com, yahoo.com and the modem itself I believe. The cable modem crashed several times so he asked me if they had changed the modem, my answer was YES. Nevertheless, he took out of his truck a pre-WWII modem that according to him only was able to send pings. He ran the same tests several times and determined my modem is the problem. He will put me in for a replacement, since TWC has not figured out yet how they're going to handle the modem swapping saga. I hooked up my Vonage to his test modem but the line1 LED did not lit up. He warned me before I tested it, he did not believe his modem would support Vonage. When asked about PL being close to 30% at the infamous 68.87.207.81, he said it is completely normal since it is not uncommon to program routers to ignore 1/3 ping requests. Will keep you all posted. |

As of last evening, my pingplotter results suffered some changes: a) Infamous 68.87.207.81 PL is at less than 10% (Used to be 30% consistently 24x7) b) The rest of the hops are also showing at least 10% PL. They all used to be 100% free of PL most of the time. c) Although I did not keep logs, it looks like the IP addresses of hops 4 and beyond (I've always used comcast.com as my target) are resolved to names that include Level3 somewhere in them. My first two test phone calls with Vonage worked fine. The modem has not recycled once since last night. Weird? Will keep you all posted. |

It's been almost 3 days without any significant Vonage issues. My Internet connection is slow but as far as phone calls goes, everything seems to be OK now. Just for the record, TWC never got around to changing my modem, in fact, they did not do anything on my end to get to this point. It looks like the transition in North Dallas is now over, at least for me. Not sure what PL looks like today, because my freeware Pingplotter expired. |

FYI: ATA stands for Analog Telephone Adaptor, and they're being phased out. |

I truly hope this is the end of my saga. Our Vonage has been running OK for the past week. Not a single dropped call, audio is perfect. TWC never got around to changing my modem and they did not change anything within my home wiring. Although they might not accept it, it was their problem all along. Now I need to call the credit department and get me a 1-month refund. Over and out. Good luck. |
