Post subject: Savings
I am new to the forum, but a 2 year customer with
Vonage
. I live in a rural area and my phone service allowed me to call only to my neighbors. Period. 5 miles either way after that it was long distance. I was paying approx. 100.00-125.00per month in phone service. Then
Vonage
came along 24.99......well the rest is history. I enjoyed the savings so much I turned my friends on to it, the 1st year I had NO bill. Yes , it has its problems, but they are so small I will not even mention them.
I am one satisfied customer, and I am ready to take part in their testing program. Is it the savings of 24.99?...Nope...I just want this service to be better for all that are in the same situation I am in. If
Vonage
has something new to try to IMPROVE, then I am on board...

What an unusual post - one that actually praises
Vonage
service.

Unusual? That is true. Unique experience? Doubtful.
I've had absolutely nothing to complain about for the past 10 months so I haven't posted. I've had very little to complain about in the past 18 months so I only posted a few times.
Vonage
is beyond great when you have a reliable broadband connection!!!

agreed. I had lousy service for the first couple of weeks, which I tracked down to cable signal in my condo (caused by bad wiring and multiple cheap splitters), plus an old modem. After convincing my cable company to send me a new docsis 2.0 modem (they sent me the webstar dpc2100) and fixed the mad wiring in my condo, and got my new vt2442, the service has been awesome. If the service I currently have stays the same,
Vonage
will certainly keep me as a happy client for many years to come

Yes, very interesting post.
I thought I was saving until the TimeWarnerCable raised the price of high speed access to $45 (after first 6 months). I was paying $30 (Vonage) + $45 (cable) = $75
I just switched to trad phone (bellsouth) and DSL and I do spend a few dollars more ($82 for unlim local and long distance and DSL Ultra) but I don't have to worry about my phone service being down when broadband is down or call quality being bad.
My $.02

It is important to understand that I am in a position that provided NO option. It was frontier or nothing. I was unable to call more than 6 miles in ALL directions without it being long distance.
I was chopping at the bit to rid myself of Frontier. I am NOT making a colorful story the 100.00-125.00 per month bill was he truth. To pay only 24.99 a month is a HUGE savings for my family.
Yes, there are downsides to
Vonage
, quality and interruption in service if the internet goes down, small inconvience in my option. I find it difficult for anyone to grip. Either go with the service or not. 24.99 it is very difficult for me to say anything bad.

I would have high speed no matter what, since I work from home. Therefore I don't include the cost of the high speed access when comparing
Vonage
to the telcos. I've had high speed for years, including when I had my old telco line, and I have it today. Therefore it's a consistent cost which shouldn't be included in comparisons, unless of course you simply don't need high speed and are getting it for the sole purpose of setting up a
Voip
line.
I also wouldn't think of switching my videotron high speed for any other high speed service, since all other options in my area are slower and less reliable, and I also get free cable tv on my cable line.... dunno... guess someone forgot to put a tv filter on my cable service =)
Total I pay for TV, High Speed, and
Vonage
= $98/month. That's the cheapest I can find anywhere
Oh, and did I mention that I've received a total of 5 months of credits from
Vonage
? I went to cancel because of all the problems I had at first, and they said don't cancel, we'll give you a few months to work things out.. so I said sure thing, bring it on... so that $98/month I calculated above doesn't go into effect until February. Until then I'm paying just for the high speed, which is about $55/month

I should also mention, that while I agree that traditional phone service is going down in price, there's only one reason for that, and it's called competition. Without
Vonage
, and other
Voip
providers, you can bet you'd still be paying much higher prices.
They have no choice but to compete, so we should all thanks our lucky stars that we leave in a free market society
