I'm setting up Vonage for the first time at home and the router that I have already and would like to continue to use is an AirPort Express. It has no ethernet connections other than an input and it transmits wireless signal.

The setup that I have tried to use is:

cable>>modem>>vonage box>>airport express

both the modem and the Vonage displays indicate that each is both inputting and outputting internet signal but the airport express is not receiving an internet signal. the power light on the Vonage box is either a flashing green or solid red at all times. I wonder if I have a faulty box and I'm having problems with the power to the Vonage component of my system. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Jenn

Please post the technical details listed in the sticky message at the top of the forum.

Generally speaking, a flashing power light on your Vonage adapter indicates that it isn't ready for service. However, we'll have to know which one you have to go beyond that. The basic setup that you've indicated should be correct for your situation. Make sure that your cables are good, the cable from the modem to the Vonage box goes to the WAN (internet) port, and the cable from the Vonage box to the Airport Express is in on one of the Vonage LAN ports.

Is the Vonage telephone service working? My guess is no.

I'm running a network with an RTP300, an Airport Extreme, and an Airport Express, and the configuration works flawlessly.

A few things to check:

- Make sure the Ethernet port is enabled on the Airport Express (under "Base Station Options"). Chances are if you've been using it to connect the the Internet previously it should be enabled, but if you created a new profile for going through your Vonage router (which isn't a bad idea), it's possible that it was disabled again.

- Under the "Network" tab, deselect the "Distribute IP Addresses" checkbox. Allow the Vonage router to distribute the addresses. If you have two such devices distributing addresses on your network, you can run into a myriad of problems (especially if they're both distributing addresses in the same address space).

- Under the "Internet" tab, you may want to give your Express a static IP address. This isn't really all that necessary if you're running an all-Mac network, as router services (like the print service, and Airtunes) will be discovered automatically by Bonjour anyhow.

- Just in case, make sure that WDS is disabled (or, if you know you need it, it should be enabled as a main base station only).

- If all else fails, check your ethernet cable. As well, if you didn't do so when re-arranging your network, unplug your cable modem from power for a few minutes, then plug it back in (indeed, you may want to power all your network devices off, and then start turning them on one at a time, with a minute delay between each, to ensure all the ARP tables and routing tables are updated in each device).

I hope this helps!

Yaz.

The telephone service gives a recorded message... can't remember the details (to post on this forum I've had to disconnect all Vonage components of my setup). it's definitely something about not being activated or online or authorized or something to that effect.

As for the box, I am using the Vonage Device Motorola VT2142. All the cables appear to be fine, I have also substituted them for cables that I know are functional with the same outcome.

Sticky message at the top of the forum?? not sure what you mean there. sorry. hopefully this is enough technical detail.

Thanks
J

It's the message here that lists some things that will help us to help you: http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic7191.html .

The VT2142 is one that uses a flashing power light to indicate phases that it's going through while booting up. How many flashes are you seeing?
