Post subject: Using V-Phone with existing account
Hey there,
My father has just purchased the V-Phone for my mother, and I of course, am stuck here trying to figure it out how to work it.
Anyways, we have an existing account and have been using
Vonage
for months now. What my father would like to do is have my mom be able to call her relatives outside the U.S. using her laptop and the V-Phone because she is currently living in a different house then the one subscribed to
Vonage
.
So, when I plugged in the V-Phone into my computer, everything started fine. But, at the bottom, it says something like "Not subsribed, double click here to subscribe". Well, when I double click that, it takes me to 4 different subscription options. And well... I don't want to subscribe, do I? Since, I already have an existing
Vonage
account.
S this is where Im lost, and Im desperately seeking help. So if one of you could possibly tell me how to get this all setup and running well, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
(Sorry if this has been covered before)

As far as what's been said here, you cannot use the V-Phone as an addition to an account. It has it's own number, therefore, it's own subscription/account. Others may have a workaround involving Simulring and call forwarding, but I'll let them comment.

Post subject: Vonage told me you definetly can register V-Phone
I spoke to
Vonage
tech support reps on 3 seperate occasions and they all told me, specifically, that the V-phone could be registered as an additional device on an existing account. You need to go to the home page and register this. Please let me know if it works for you.

Yes, you can add another device to an account, but this does not mean 2 devices will use the same phone #. Having several devices on the same account allows for one bill.
Vonage
charges a separate monthly fee for use of the V-phone, which will have its own phone #.

Post subject: That is NOT what Vonage told me
Vonage
tech support-3 reps from 3 seperate calls, all confirmed that you can share multiple devices on one accoune with ONE phone number. They said you need to go to the
Vonage
website when you want to change which device you want to use, but you can still share multple devices with one ohone number and one monthly charge.
I asked this question specifically and got the same answer 3 times.
Is there anyone from
Vonage
on this forum that can confirm this?

From what you wrote, 2 or more devices cannot be
active
with the same phone number at the same time. This is believable. I could go to a store, buy a new ATA to replace my ATA, for the same number.
But, is Ub3r looking to replace his existing device with v-phone ? I get the impression that he wants to use his v-phone in addition to his existing device.

Post subject: V-Phone = Softphone
Hi everybody! My first post here.
Correct me if I'm wrong please.
I think the V-Phone would be like having a Softphone. It's an "add on", so is like you're having an additional line. You can have it in the same account but as two different phone numbers. Am I correct or not? Any help is appreciated.

With softphone, it must be an add-on. WIth v-phone, it could be an add-on or the only phone.

I have trying to verify that you can have multiple devices and assign them to a single number one at a time.
I have one phone #. I was using a Linksys PAP2. I added a V-Phone to my account. Now, I can move the phone number between devices by logging into the
Vonage
web site and going to:
Add-ons > Move A Number
.
http://www.vonage.com/help.php?article=1184&category=131&nav=2
I set the PAP2 to be the active device. I waited for more 15 minutes.
Now I encontered a glitch, the v-phone shows that I can dial, but from the PAP2, I also get dialtone. When I dial from Bell to my
Vonage
#, the phone attached to PAP2 rings, but I cannot call my Bell # from PAP2. I can call toll free phone numbers from PAP2. I can call my Bell # from the V-phone ! So it is now partitioned partly on the V-phone, and partly on the PAP2 !
I will provide an update after I get things working again. Looks like I have to call CS

Update...
After being on the phone with
Vonage
CS for 90 minutes, it turns out that the problem was that the PAP2 was not getting updated through my D-Link DI-624 router. After plugging the PAP2 directly into the cable modem and power cycling the cable modem and then PAP2, it started working again.
So it is possible to have V-Phone and another ATA on the same account and assign the single phone number to one of the devices from the Move A Number web page.
