I have an iMac 10.2.8. I received my Motorola 2142 on Monday, hooked it up and the phone system worked very well, but I could never get online. My DSL modem showed to be connected. I called Embarq and they informed me that from their end it did appear that I was connected. After a couple of hours of talking to Vonage they decided that the 2142 was bad and sent me another. New box, same problem. I again went through four levels at Vonage and they are clueless as to why it won't work. They now want to send another box. Rolling Eyes

I spent an hour on the phone with Apple Support this morning. He had me make some changes and checked some things and his opinion is that that there is nothing wrong with the computer, but for some reason the computer refuses to recognize the router. Vonage swears that the one I have is correct for my Mac.

Has anyone experienced this problem with the Mac/Vonage hookup and have any idea where I can look? Thanks.

hi,
check if u have connected ur modem in the internet port of 2142,if u have connected ur modem to the ethernet port the 2142 acts as a switch so either ur phone works or the computer works.and tell me what the lights on the 2142 r doing.

Port from the DSL modem (reads 10/100M) runs to the blue port of the 2142 (internet port). Yellow port from the 2142 (ethernet) runs to the computer.

i don't know if you could do this on a mac (i don't know why not) but i'll post it anyway...

in windows when people have a phone and the internet is not working, try going to the local area connection properties and under the general tab-if you scroll down the list and find the "internet protocol (TCP/IP)" and select properties-under the DNS fields on the bottom try putting for the preferred dns, 4.2.2.2 and the secondary as 2.2.2.1

this is known to solve the issue. but i don't know where those options are on a mac computer, sorry.

Thank you for the replies. Apple support had me try the DNS fields suggestion, but that didn't work. A friend of mine suggested buying a NAT router and hooking it up like this:

[DSL Router] --- [NAT ROUTER] ---(Computer AND Vonage Box plugged into Router)

Since the computer seems to not want to recognize the Vonage device then this should keep them from talking to one another is what he has told me. If the new Vonage box that I am supposed to get on Monday doesn't work then this will be my next step.

Vonage sent me a third repacement box, this time a 2442. Everything now works as it should.
