I just signup with Vonage a days ago and porting my phone # from sbc to Vonage. My question are: I am using sbc dsl (using that # that I am transferring to vonage), will I have a problem on my dsl connection after the transfer complete? Can I disconnect my service with my (SBC) regular telephone service without having any problem with my dsl connection? Please kindly help.

most likely if the dsl line and your phone service share the same number-your port will be rejected because of the dsl feature on the line. You can ask sbc to install a dry line dsl into your house this way it'll just be used for the dsl information while leaving the phone alone, from there you should port over the phone number.

u sure are gonna have issues because if the number had succsesfully been ported over to Vonage, u would lose your dsl connection. therefore, you have to ask for a naked dsl - its a phone line with the most basic one where ur internet connection will come from.

or, u may always contact ur local cable company for broadband service.if i were you,i would choose the latter, its cheaper, faster and less hassle

Thanks. I am tied up with 1 year contract on sbc dsl. Either way I need to have a regular telephone line for my dsl, right? But to ask SBC to install a dry line for my dsl line, how much it will cost? Is there any way to cancelled my request of porting my number from sbc to vonvage? Please help.

Call customer support at 888 250 1799 and explain the situation to them. As for SBC, you'll have to address those questions to them. It may well be that they'll let you keep the DSL exactly as it is but give up the voice connection (and even transfer the number), but that's not a technical issue. It's a company policy issue to which only they can give you an accurate answer.

To be clear, you don't need regular telephone service to have DSL. You can request from your local telco DSL service only (also known as a "Dry Line" or "Naked DSL").

Keep in mind that it is at your local telco's disgretion as to whether they offer naked DSL and they typically charge more for it. In fact, it's not uncommon to find the price of naked DSL is equivalent to the price one would pay for the same DSL level of service plus regular telephone service. You have to do the math.

Specific to your question, your phone port request shouldn't go through at all. Vonage specifically says that they will not port a line that is active with DSL. In fact, when I ported my line from Verizon to Vonage, the first attempt didn't go through. The line I was porting formerly had DSL but I specifically cancelled DSL on the line in anticipation of the port. However, the records at Verizon weren't complete so when Vonage tried to port the line, it came back as active with DSL and the port was cancelled. I then had to go through the process again, this time obtaining a confirmation code from Verizon verifying DSL was no longer active on the line. Vonage used that information to successfully process the request. It took three weeks.

So, I bet your port request will be denied and cancelled. If you're under contract with SBC for DSL, it sounds like the best thing to do is cancel Vonage (assuming you're still in the trial period) and finish your SBC contract.

Good luck!

>>you can cancel the number transfer by calling 18662434357,then press option 2 then 3.
>>another option is that you can get another line from sbc and have them transfer your dsl to that new number so that you can still keep your old number with Vonage and have sbc for the meantime.. Smile hope it helps.. Smile
