I just wanted to inform those regular readers of this forum that we seem to have resolved the caller ID problem.

It took much longer to identify the root cause. Although many of you have suggested some of the reasons, it was a much more complicated issue that we thought.

All calls from UK PSTN to Vonage and from Vonage to UK PSTN should display the Caller ID directly.

Hopefully, we won't be seeing any more problems with Caller ID!

Thanks to everyone for being patient.

regards

Kerry

All fixes should be implemented by now. There shouldn't be any outstanding issues.

Caller ID still doesnt work on my Vonage line Sad

I guess there are still some outstanding issues. Do I need to let Vonage support know that this is still the case? or can I assume that someone is going to continue looking at the issues?

There's no need to keep going buying new phones. The ones you have should work fine if Vonage tweak some of their settings. If you phone worked on BT or Freetalk or NTL etc then there's no reason it shouldn't work on Vonage. It is just that they have the "caller id with name" set as a priority which means that it will display a name before a number - if no name is available then you end up getting CALL or just a few numbers 01234 56 on your display.

A binatone E800 which worked fine on all networks was connected to a Motorola ATA. The phone took 3 rings before actually ringing - did not ring like a proper uk phone and displayed incoming callers as "CALL" after several calls and moans about this around 3 weeks later it has all been corrected and the phone rings like a uk phone and caller id works as it should.

A similar problem lies with a D-Link ATA and a Binatone Vantage 4200 cordless phone. Same 3 rings before ringing - same US style ringtone and same "call" display issue.

Vonage tech says it is being looked into - and that some of the motorola and Dlink ATA's have Texas Instrument chipsets in them that may not be able to recognise UK standards only US ones so they are looking into updates.

It can be done by high level techs - so don't waste money buying more handsets - persist in getting it fixed. Your phone is fine it's the way the Vonage service is set up that's wrong.

Sorry for the cross post
I think I have the same issue here and I'm using a Motorola VT2442 and MY BT Synergy 3505. How did you finally make them see sense?

Also why is there such contradictions of information?

Vonage have finally decided that my Freetalk branded phone (its a freetalk 200) is not compatible with their service.

I guess its a case of they cannot work out why its compatible with the BT network and previously the Freetalk network, and also why it does display the caller ID when a call comes in whilst the phone is in use.

A bit frustrating, but I'm going to push for a list of phones that they've actually tested with the service in the UK.

Heres the response from Vonage

"We understand that you would like to have a list of handsets that are
compatible with our service. Fortunately most handsets work perfectly
with our service, but because of this we do not compile any lists. To
be honest the only phones we have seen a major problem with are the
Freetalk phones, as Caller ID is not normally a problem for our UK
customers. We do, however, recommend that you hold on to the receipt
until after you test the phone just to be sure.

As for which protocol we use for Caller ID, we use the SIN 351 protocol
for managing all of the call handling, but the exact caller ID method
used is ETSI FSK With PR(UK). This works with most (if not all) BT
phones and some Freetalk phones as well as almost every other large
manufacture."

Which is good enough for me, the phone I use probably is ok for a different caller ID method and not the one they use. Looks like I need a new phone, I hear Tesco sells them cheap nowadays Smile

Hi there!

I'm new to Vonage. My pack only arrived this morning but I've got it all setup.
But Caller ID doesn't work, and my phone sounds like an American phone when I call.

I have the D-Link ATA and an old BT DECT handset that supports Caller ID (or at least did when it was plugged into my BT socket).

Who should I prod to get it working?

Ben.

Oh dear!

I have said yes to the D-Link wireless device in the hope that it cure my problems.

I would put a call into tech support (150) and get the "ermm yeah..... errrm some phones may not be compatible line...." Rolling Eyes

What BT dect phone is it?
