Cry

I am so so confused..............been onto Vonage and they can not get caller ID working. Howvever when I was on the phone someone rang me and my phone alerted me with a beep and caller ID displayed the number. So it works when I am connected and does not when I am not................ before I totally give up !

Any ideas

Thanks

Tiggy

Thats the only time my works also. Not sure why that is though.

Vonage have switch the line that my phone plugs into (Phone 2 rather than Phone 1), but that made little difference. Going to try my other phone with it to see if that works. Ever way, they suggested I get another phone, but I'm going to ask them what brands and models are compatible with their service.

I have done some testing and my BT Studio 100 phone does work with caller display.

I have asked Vonage if they are likely to make any changes to their system such that my other phone which worked with Caller display on BT and the Freetalk network will work and failing that if they can supply me with a list of known compatible phones.

The response I got from Vonage regarding this was

"In response to the issue that you are experiencing with the Caller
Display feature, any telephone that is compatible with standard analog
telephone service should work with our service as well"

Also an engineer has called and I gave him all the info I had. It seems that they have been having issues with ex-Freetalk customers so hopefully with enough info they can get to the bottom of it.

It does look like they are actively investigating this issue though (which wasnt the impression I had a few weeks ago).

What phone did you get Tiggy?

I'm thinking it might be worth compiling a list of phones that are know to work and those which dont, that way others can get an idea of what to buy if they decide to get a new phone.

I think most BT phones will work. I have also tested Philips DECT 6231s and it works fine.

I suggest users should post their phone models and wether CID works or not with Vonage Voip.

cheers

There's no need to keep going buying new phones. The ones you have should work fine if Vonage tweak some of their settings. If you phone worked on BT or Freetalk or NTL etc then there's no reason it shouldn't work on Vonage. It is just that they have the "caller id with name" set as a priority which means that it will display a name before a number - if no name is available then you end up getting CALL or just a few numbers 01234 56 on your display.

A binatone E800 which worked fine on all networks was connected to a Motorola ATA. The phone took 3 rings before actually ringing - did not ring like a proper uk phone and displayed incoming callers as "CALL" after several calls and moans about this around 3 weeks later it has all been corrected and the phone rings like a uk phone and caller id works as it should.

A similar problem lies with a D-Link ATA and a Binatone Vantage 4200 cordless phone. Same 3 rings before ringing - same US style ringtone and same "call" display issue.

Vonage tech says it is being looked into - and that some of the motorola and Dlink ATA's have Texas Instrument chipsets in them that may not be able to recognise UK standards only US ones so they are looking into updates.

It can be done by high level techs - so don't waste money buying more handsets - persist in getting it fixed. Your phone is fine it's the way the Vonage service is set up that's wrong.
