Anyone else get this e-mail?
We are inviting you to apply to participate in the beta test trial of the new VT2142 single port router with two phone ports for
Vonage
phone service. For a 30 day beta period, you will be able to use the VT2142 and
Vonage
Premium Unlimited service at no charge. In return for your participation in the beta program, you will receive a credit of $29.99 on your
Vonage
account. You may use the credit as you please - toward your phone bill or to try out a
Vonage
add-on feature such as a virtual number. Your existing
Vonage
service will continue as normal during the beta trial. We ask that you please apply on or before Tuesday, July 11th. Space is limited. Please read below for detailed information pertaining to the beta trial.
Installation of the VT2142 is very simple. You may connect it to an existing router if you have one, or directly to your broadband modem. The VT2142 offers a single LAN port, so you may connect a PC to it. If your existing
Vonage
device is a router, you may connect the VT2142 to it; however, you will be required to change the default IP address of the VT2142. Directions will be provided to accomplish that.
As a participant in the beta trial, you will be asked to:
a) Activate your beta device on to a separate beta account with its own unique phone number. This number will only be active for the duration of the beta period. It will be independent of your current
Vonage
service. A valid credit card will be required for activation. Your credit card will only be charged for any international calls or 411 calls that you make.
b) Provide weekly feedback via an on-line survey regarding your experiences with activation, installation, and usage of the phone and various
Vonage
calling features.
Upon successful completion of the beta program, we will credit your main
Vonage
account $29.99. The conditions for this credit include:
1. Successfully activating and using the VT2142 Single Port Router.
2. Completing the weekly on-line feedback survey.
3. Returning the VT2142 in satisfactory condition. A pre-paid return shipping label will be provided.
To apply to participate, please click on the link below. This link will take you to an application on SurveyMonkey.com.

Everyday, going through troubleshooting steps with customer, I see the feature that is currently read only for Anonymous Call Blocking set to disable. So I see it there, but I can't do anything about it. From that alone, someone thought about it, but hasn't given the ability as of yet.
ANR (Anonymous Call Rejection) doesn't work worth a crap for
Vonage
. I've been beta testing it since March, and it blocks ONLY calls from callers who have dialed using *67--who does THAT anymore?--and NOT 99% of anonymous calls, those being calls from PBX switchboards, telemarketers, creditors, and other sources that show up as "out of area" or "unknown caller". ALL the so-called anonymous calls I get are from these sources. I get no fewer than a half-dozen 800 # calls, telemarketing calls, and other such calls every day, and this is with ANR turned on for my account. When I was with SBC (now AT&T), I had a free service called "Privacy Manager" that blocked ALL these calls from ever ringing my phone.

Vonage
is sooooo dropping the ball. They could be doing some really cool things that could put them way ahead of their competition like: a good ACR or a White List of people that are allowed to ring through and everyone else goes to voicemail. There is just so much potentially neat things that they could be doing to gain and retain customers and all they are doing is trying to figure out more ways to "milk" their current customers. It's just sad to see
Vonage
flounder like this. Now that all of the BS fees are starting to hit,
Vonage
is becoming more and more like a POTS. I don't know how much longer I will be able to stay with them. So many other
Voip
providers have better features now. The only reason I am still staying with
Vonage
is because of the reliability. Oh well, it's just sad.

I received a email a few weeks ago asking if I was interested in being a tester for this new software/hardware.
How would one get on the list to participate in these beta tests?
Thanks in advance.

I am getting calls from someone who is (a) hanging up without saying a word and (b) spoofing their caller ID (888-333-5555 how imaginative).
I would love to be able to block this number as I am sure the company the number really belongs to, a trucking company, will never want to call me.
Vonage
CSRs have done nothing to deal with this harassment. It's about time we were able to put this matter in our own hands. The white list idea mentioned earlier is a superb one. Create a white list, allow calls from anyone on that white list, or allow from anyone not on the black list, or allow all calls. CAKE!
Fix this soon
Vonage
or I will choose another
Voip
provider. I will. Honest.
