PostPosted: Fri Sep 29, 2006 12:58 pm    Post subject: vonage connection with Linksys WRTP54G router Reply with quote Back to top

Hi Guys-I recently brought my Vonage linksys router wrtp54g to bangalore from US I am encountering difficulties in installing the same.I have a DSL model with data one. When I connect the Vonage adaptor to the dsl modem ,there is no internet connection nor the phone light is on.Internet however works fine when I connect it idrectly to the dsl modem.I went to the linksys site(http://192.168.15.1) ,selected PPOE and entered the user id and password ,but it doesnt connect (in the status tab). Also if I enter the password as XYZ ,when I click on save , I see a password with 10 or so letters.Secondly in my network connections tab(control panel) ,the ip address, subnet mask, default gateway etc is specified(for dataone).Should these values be maintained as is or should I specify the ip addres of the Vonage router with the default and alternate gateway of dataone...Any experts comments would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Mr.Bangalore

Don't worry it's simple to make ur device working. U have mentioned that the IP address, Subnet mask and default gateway is specified to your network. If that is going to be static address try to select "static" option in linksys site and enter the values. click on save changes and try to reboot the device and wait for 2 to 3 mins. It should work.

I think there is no need to enter the username and password for BSNL. Because most of the BSNL connection works without autentication.

If the following steps doesn't resolve your issue. Try to follow the steps mentioned below

1. Get into the linksys site (192.168.15.1)
2. Select "DHCP" option
3. Click on "save changes"
4. Click on "MAC address Clone" which is below the Administration Tab in the same Setup page.
5. Select MAC address "enable"
6. Click on "clone"
7. Click on "Save Changes"
8. Wait for 1 min
9. Make sure the modem and router are connected properly
10. It should word
11. If not turn off both router and modem
12. wait for 2 mins
13. Turn ON the BSNL modem first
14. Wait for 1 min
15. Turn ON the router
16. wait for few secs
17. connect the Phone after the phone light litup on the router
18. It should resolve your issue

i think the first option is good. if your computer has a specified static IP. yes you can put that on the linksys page. instead of PPPoe select static. provide all the infos.

also, you should select "obtain IP address automatically" on the "Internet Protocol TCP/IP" properties of your computer.

Hi shail
As you already having a D-Link DI-524 router it is simple to make the PAP2 working

-Take a ethernet cable
-Connect one end of the cable to the ethernet port of the PAP2 and connect the other end of the cable to one of the ethernet/LAN port in Delink
-Reboot the Network
-Wait for 1-2mins
-It will Work

Hello Peter,

I have done all these the router is working fine but when I connect the phone to port1 on the adapter the light is not glowing and there is no dial tone. I called the support and follo wed the instructions how disconnecting and connecting router and adapater by following the below steps but I did not have any luck. Only option left is the IP address related I guess.

1. Unplug the power cord from Modem.
2. Using a telephone cable, connect your telephone to the PHONE 1 port of the Phone Adapter. (Don't use cordless)
3. Connect the included Ethernet network cable to the ETHERNET port of the Phone Adapter.
Connect the other end to the one of the Ethernet ports on your router.
4. Connect the router to modem.
5. Power on modem by plugging its power cord into an electrical outlet.
6. Wait two minutes, and then power on the router by plugging its power cord into an electrical outlet.
7. Wait five minutes, and then power on the Phone Adapter by plugging its power cord into an electrical outlet.
8. The Power, Ethernet, and Phone1 Lights will be solidly lit when the Phone Adapter is ready for use.
9. Now you can pick up your phone and check for dial tone.

If you don't get the dial tone :

Checklist 1

• Make sure the telephone is plugged into the appropriate port, PHONE 1
• Make sure the ETHERNET LED on the front panel of the Phone Adapter is lit. If it is not lit, then check your
router and modem connections.
• Pick up the telephone. Press 80#. Hang up the telephone. Wait approximately 30 seconds. Then pick up
the telephone; you should now have a dial tone.

Otherwise

Checklist 2

1. Power off the Phone Adapter by unplugging its power cord.
2. Power off the router by unplugging its power cord.
3. Power off your cable or DSL modem by unplugging its power cord.
4. Power on modem by plugging its power cord into an electrical outlet.
5. Wait two minutes, and then power on the router by plugging its power cord into an electrical outlet.
6. Wait five minutes, and then power on the Phone Adapter by plugging its power cord into an electrical outlet.
7. The Power, Ethernet, and Phone1 Lights will be solidly lit when the Phone Adapter is ready for use.
8. Now you can pick up your phone and check for dial tone.

If you still don't get the dial tone :

1.Use a telephone connected to the PHONE 1 and Press **** (in other words, press the star key four times).
2.Press 877778# and hang up the phone.
3. Power off the Phone Adapter by unplugging its power cord.
4. Power off the router by unplugging its power cord.
5. Power off your cable or DSL modem by unplugging its power cord.
6. Power on modem by plugging its power cord into an electrical outlet.
7. Wait two minutes, and then power on the router by plugging its power cord into an electrical outlet.
8. Wait five minutes, and then power on the Phone Adapter by plugging its power cord into an electrical outlet.
9. The Power, Ethernet, and Phone1 Lights will be solidly lit when the Phone Adapter is ready for use.
10. Now you can pick up your phone and check for dial tone

Thanks
Shail
