I am trying to use the v-phone in two ways, neither is working satisfactorily.

1) on my laptop I am able to make calls using a WIFI connection... but the sound quality is described as somewhere between eerrrrrTHEYerrrrrHEARerrrrrrLIKEerrrrrrrTHIS.... and "being in a machine" (sister couldn't get more specific, sorry!) I have done the following: 1) run audio wizard to enable DirectSound, 2) turned off McAfee & Windows firewalls, 3) set bandwidth saver to lowest (NORMAL) setting 4) held microphone w/ headset to my lips. Is there anything else I can do? Will this ever work w/ WiFi or is it too slow? My connection says it is "Very Good" and shows as 54Mbps in the UI.

2) also trying to use at a school lab. I assume i am not having sufficient rights (admin) as when I plug in the v-phone I get an error message saying loaderw.exe cannot run and the autorun failed to launch. Trying to run the program manually via the My Computer D: drive does not work either. It still gives autorun error and the loaderw.exe error. Pretty frustrating.

If you cannot use this thing via WiFi and you cannot use it in a computer lab / internet cafe... what good is it??

HELP! Need suggestions please.

First - the 54M that you see is just the link between you and the access point, it has nothing to do with the bandwidth going out the door. This is a common misconception about WiFi - in almost all cases - and probably all cases with Vonage - the "speed" of the access point itself (802.11b up 10 11M, 802.11g up to 54M, or even the pre-802.11N) makes no difference at all, it is just the first link on the way to the internet. The most likely bottleneck is the path out - Cable Modem, DSL, or shared T1 (University is probably shared T1 and may be restricted on top of that).

That is why "testyourvoip.com" is recommended as that will give you an idea what you look like from the outside. It does seem like there is some bandwidth limit that is getting you - either that or the low bandwidth CODEC is not so good - try setting to the high bandwidth setting and see if that is any better - if you problem is NOT bandwidth, then this should sound a lot better. If you problem IS bandwidth, it'll get worse.

OK, so it is likely a bandwidth problem... BUT what about this other issue with the software not loading.... any info on this? Thanks!!

Having autorun "any" .exe not run may well be a windows security feature or setting. It is normally a good idea not to automatically run anything that gets downloaded - so that would not be a big surprise.
