Hi, I recently moved from a condo to a house. In the condo there was one terminal where I was able to unplug the phone line and plug in the Vonage line and every phone in the condo when to Vonage. The house has a phone box in the garage which is just a bunch of wires and I really dont know how to begin hooking up Vonage. (I currently have one phone hooked up to the router, but i want to get Vonage running through the house phone wiring.) can someone give me a pointer? maybe a different forum? Thanks |

Not really being able to see what this "phone box" in your garage is, let's assume it is a central point "demarc" where all the lines from your house are tied together. The 1st thing you need to do is to isolate your inside wiring from the street wiring. There should be a box outside your house accessible to both you and the phone company. It is usually gray in color. Search this site as there are specific instructions and pictures on how to successfully disco this wiring. Once you find this box and disconnect the wiring you can then proceed with connecting the phone port from your Vonage router to your "demarc". The best way to find out where to actually connect it is to find the wiring that goes from the gray box outside your house to the demarc inside. You would remove this wiring and connect the phone port from your Vonage router in it's place. I did this exact installation when I first installed my Vonage service to connect all of my phone lines as well as an alarm system. Granted I had to run cable from my Vonage router phone port which was at one end of of the house to my demarc which was at the other end of the house(ran this cable through the wall and outside the house and tied the wires together in the old POTS gray box), but it made connecting all phone jacks and the alarm system that much easier |

Hi nemex, I think that you dont need to connect your Vonage box directly into your dmarc, you can plug it in any of the phone jacks in your house, as long as the dmarc has been disconnected from the wires that come from the street. So no need for a long cable! |

Saskia- yes I agree, however remember that I also have an alarm system which needs to be 1st in the phone connections, so it was easier to just install at the demarc. |
