I have an RTP300 behind a NetGear FVS318. I had to move it behind the router because of 1.01.07 problems.
Since then, I have gotten a lot of static. I have rebooted everything, and hard reset the RTP300. I have setup port forwarding on the FVS318 for the RTP300.
So I am not sure that it is specifically a "behind the router" issue, but if you have anything else I can try I would appreciate it. |

I would start by moving the RTP300 back in front of the router (temporarily) to confirm that the problem goes away with that placement. Assuming that it does, and also assuming that it worked OK before the firmware "upgrade", I'd call customer service and ask to be downgraded. I see in the thread discussing the issue that at least one of us has been able to stay downgraded for a couple of days. |

Steve is correct. Static on the RTP300 is one known issue with the 1.01.07 firmware upgrade. Getting the firmware downgraded should fix this until the actually release a firmware that works. |

I figured it was something like that. I will try to put it as a peer to the router, but can't move it in front. I have already had too much downtime as a result of this "upgrade".
Thanks again for the comments. |

I have been getting a "whistling" on my line since the upgrade. I went into the Bandwidth saver and reduced my b/w from 90 to 60. The whistling has disappeared and there is no noticable degradation in call quality. |

For a few months now, I've noticed that whenever the temp of the RTP300 got very warm (by physically touching it), I would hear a high pitched squeal in the background (annoying). Recently, the router had been acting up even more - constant very bad static all the time. Disconnecting the router from the network and plugging a wired phone into either phone 1 or phone 2 resulted in the same bad static. Figuring it was dying a slow death, I went out and purchased a D-link VTA-VR and put it into use yesterday. Works great, much smaller, simpler, and excellent sound quality.
Also of note is the RTP300 (at least the one I had) never really had full duplex. Whenever we would talk, we could not hear the other party. And vice versa. Seemed whoever talked louder would get through. With the VTA-VR, conversations are in full duplex. It maybe was something that Vonage did at a settings level, as when I called to change the device, the CS rep changed something due to it being a different box, moved me from phone 2 to phone 1, etc. (I'm not suggesting the RTP300 isn't a full duplex device, as others have noted it is.)

It appears to be the upgrade.
I tried to move the bandwidth saver and it is the same. Which coincidentally prevents my Tivo from dialing, so I moved it back to 90.
Further, a temporary move in front of the other router did not fix it. |

It also prevented our house alarm to do it's weekly heatbeat communication to the head office.
I'm happier with the VTA-VR. I didn't need a router in my Vonage device. The WRT54G is much better at that.
I wonder how this RTP300 firmware got out if it's causing so many problems with static.

anyone had any luck correcting the static problem with this box?
I noticed it about 3 weeks ago but it took me until yesterday to call about it. Level 1 of customer service sent me to level 2 and i haven't heard anything from them, yet. |

I'm not about to try this firmware myself, but could someone describe the static they get? Is it like a hissy-sound in the background (but louder than usual for common line noise?) If so, the RTP300 has had this problem since 1.00.60, but it only happened with certain phones back then. I'm willing to bet it's the same static problems I had waay back when. |
