Same problems here to in the last 3 weeks. I called Tech support and they eventually transferred me to level 2 and after rolling back the firmware and changing this and that, they told me it was my $150.00 Uniden phone that was the problem. BS!!!!

What's the secret to preventing the firmware updates from being applied? On the old adapters, shorting the pins in the unused phone jack worked, but what is the secret on the newer units?

Same static problem here. I am so frustrated with Vonage that I am very close to canceling. I have better things to do with my time than spend it on the phone talking to their tech support idiots who know absolutely nothing.

Purely out of the sake of interest, am I the only one not having problems with the latest firmware?

In my case, it seems to have taken Vonage quite a bit more time to push out the update -- as of about three days ago, I was still at 1.0.0.6x. I was starting to think that perhaps Vonage Canada wasn't sending out the update due to all of the problems reported here.

Somewhere in the intervening three days, I started having serious difficulty keeping connected to all of my IM clients, which seems to dump the connection every few minutes. This however went away after a day or two, and I can't verify whether or not it was router firmware or ISP related.

However, since that problem cleared itself up, everything has been just peachy. I'm not getting any static on the phone (which is a 5.8Ghz digital cordless phone with a Voice Enhancer, so it's possible that the phone is simply stripping out the static so I can't hear it). I wish they published a changelog so I could see what it is they changed/fixed (as I wasn't having problems with the previous firmware).

So, am I the only lucky one that isn't having problems with the new firmware?

Yaz.

If you have a higher-end (read: commercial-grade) router, you can block/redirect the Vonage firmware server IPs to a null address, which will let the device TRY to get firmware, but won't let it access the server which sends the firmware out.

Shorting the 2nd port only worked on the Sipura-chipset devices, like the PAP2, RT31P2. The RTP300 is a Texas-Instruments chipset box, and the circuitry is totally different. In the case of the Sipura chipset devices, this trick lowered the line noise caused by the device's amplifier circuits and poor power filtering circuitry. The RTP300 actually doesn't have THIS problem, rather, the problems it has are with the way the firmware controls the DSP (a digital problem, rather than analog), so the shorting trick won't work here. Won't hurt anything, but won't help either.

I know for a fact that not all RTP300s have this problem. My wife and I both have RTP300s connected in identical fashion to the same WRT54G. Mine had so much static I couldn't stand it. Hers was perfectly fine.

I finally got them to downrev me to 1.00.62 and now mine is working fine again. I can't believe how hard it is to get them to do what you want. I e-mailed them linking to this thread asking to downrev me. Instead they switch me from port 1 to port 2 which suprising made it 10x worse. If anybody knows a good tactic for getting them to do what you want, please let me know.

Just wanted to provide an update on my "static" issue... I received the replacement RTP300 from Vonage (for free after much ****). Plugged it in and Voila - static gone.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
